  1. I would be tempted to eBay it or part chop it against a new one?
  2. Nice work mate!!
  3. The 254 on eBay looks to be new!! It's in the same town where I live. 254's are supposed to really good. I watched a 242 sell for about £250 not long ago. I had a cheeky bid on a 262 as they're supposed to be one of huskys best saws if not the best. Ended up getting it for £160!! That too can be a bit temperamental. Thinking of swapping the plug as it looks to be the original and retuning the carb. It idles ok, but restarting is a bit hit and miss.
  4. bow saw? I think the 365 special would suit you down to the ground mate, especially if you're not that fussed about weight. Plus if you feel like it you can always put a P&C on it from the 372...
  5. Oops... I have a 262xp too and it runs fine. lol!! I know of a member on ebay that has a husky 365 special going for £250 with a 16" bar and chain. The saw is in V.G.C. and is a 2009. All depends if you are fussed about having an XP badge or not... Not rubbing it in or anything...
  6. Also, mine is the walbro and it is fine... maybe just pot luck? I think the newer ones were zama after husky recognised the problem. I think they may have done a dealer recall to have the walbro's swapped over for zama FOC... don't quote me though
  7. Like you said, you have a lot of new parts in the saw, and for £23 delivered i would go for it. Would you be selling the saw to buy another one or could you warrant keeping it as a project and buy another one also?
  8. I never called you an idiot mate... All i am saying is that i thought it was a bit expensive? But if you say it was basically new then maybe not? The 440 i saw on ebay hadn't had a new top end either.
  9. I absolutely love my 357, mine has the auto decomp which people don't seem to like and it runs like a dream! How much are you thinking of for it? Here is the link to it: HUSQVARNA 357XP CARBURETTOR WALBRO HDA 199A on eBay (end time 17-Jan-11 13:26:17 GMT) The walbro carbs are the worst out of the two. Zama is the one of choice for the 357...
  10. Isn't that alot for a saw that is 10 years old? There was a spanking 440 on there a few weeks ago for about £350 BIN. I've just got a 262xp off ebay for £160.

    262xp parts

Other than ebay, can dealers still get a hold of 262xp parts? i.e. covers etc? Cheers.
  13. Look on the various husqvarna websites?!
  14. The US ms260 has less hp than the UK model though? Just muffle mod it and retune it and you should be somewhere or there abouts at least anyway!
  15. The previous owner of my 357xp must have run it on 1:1 mix then!! When i stripped it for cleaning the whole thing was covered in black gunk. The cylinder port especially!! Looks spanking now though!
  16. does it make the saw run any better if mixed at 40:1?
  17. I use 50:1 in my 346/357 all the time using husqvarna two stroke oil. Just wondered, what effects would running a mix that is more rich with oil do for the saw?
  18. You will need gloves, trousers, helmet and boots/wellies. I would go with stihl hi-flex trousers, husqvarna gloves, husqvarna helmet and whatever boots you like. The wellies aren't very comfortable. hth.

    sthil ms 261

I thought my 346 and 357 felt better made than my 260 though?
  20. because the 64cc is all i can afford! lol. look forward to hearing from you matey!!

    sthil ms 261

LOL, Good work Tom. Nice smooth running saw Dave, a tad heavier than the 260 but definately worth it.
  22. ebay are 470 plus 10 for postage, which is good i guess, just thought if there was a dealer then this would be the better option? thanks for the replies.
  23. Hey, welcome to the forum. When i did my 30/31 there was a guy who had a stihl ms230. The instructor looked at him gone out when he saw it. We all turned up with brand new 346's and felt like kings, but the 230 did a brilliant job!! Sounded alot more powerful than it was. If you are considering these kind of saws then the money sounds like it won't be a problem. I would go for a more pro build saw, the 346/260/261 would be ideal. Personally, if i was looking at a 50cc class then i would opt for the new ms261. A bit heavier than the 260, but way better air filtration, new technology engine and bang up to date. the 260, although it is a proven workhorse is a 20 year old design. I would definately go for a 50cc pro class saw with a 15inch bar. hth. Good luck with your 30/31, i really enjoyed doing mine! Cheers, david.
