  1. Even my ms180 takes about 4 pulls from cold and 1 when hot. I should imagine it has elastostart and a decomp though?
  2. Very good saw from what i have read, it has magical powers...
  3. Empty out the gas and put a small amount of 50:1 mix in with either husky/stihl 2 stroke and run it dry, this will ensure that all the nasty stuff has gone. If you need more help visit the american arborist site http://www.arboristsite.com it is very active and has a tonne of info on modding, fixing, fault finding and various other info on the 024 and every other saw ever made ever! Good look, keep us posted.
  4. what year is it btw?
  5. Looks well, you have yourself a bargain! You should have a play with the carb adjustments to sort the idling/cutting out, this should help. You could always do a muffler mod, it will help it to breathe better and yield more power. HTH If you ever decide to sell it on give me a bell and i will be happy to offer you a good price for it.
  6. There is also a landscape operative which is grade 4 and £14,882. The pay is probably low because you will get 24 days holiday, contributory pension and you won't exactly be rushing around like you would if you run your own business, you get payed whether you rush or not when you work for a council. There is also the benfit of like you say, probably 99% certainty of job security, which with times as they are is probably worth alot more to people in the long run than having a job which pays £18-£19k but might only be for a year etc etc etc. It will also only be 37 hours a week... HTH.
  7. If it's just the piston it isn't alot of money for a new one, if it is the p&c then you're looking at £70ish. But you will need to find out why it is like it is, if it is just that it was straight gassed then it's an easy fix, but something else could be causing it Still worth doing, these saws are fetching £160-70 on ebay, so if you spend £70 on a new p&c presuming it needs both then clean it up and make it look a bit better and flog it on on ebay then hopefully get a good whack for it then you're quids in. Ebay isn't a true representation of what saws are worth, it i way over priced, which is a good thing if you're the seller. good look, get some pics up so we can see befores and afters.
  8. It depends on what type of 024 it is, i haven't got the saw yet, so i will let you know. I think they sprockets are different if it has an adjustable oiler. Thanks buddy, David.

    saw tester

    looking forward to the readings...
  10. Anyone know what sprocket fits the 024? Thanks
  11. Has anyone used one of these before? What are they like? They're apparently the same saw as the 7900 just a smaller displacement. What is a good one worth with 18inch cutting gear? Thanks, David.
  12. i'm not a brickie, i work for the local council as a gardener, so work isn't really an issue, but i would love someone to be able to offer me some cutting, not neccessarily for money, i just want to get some experience.

    Stihl 026

The nearest dealer to me is a bit rubbish to be honest. It is a plant hire place and they're not really helpful or friendly. The 026 is £135.00

    Stihl 026

What are people's opinions on these saws? I'm not sure what year it is, but it looks in relative good condition. It has a 16inch bar and chain, and comes with a new spare chain. What is the maximum people would pay in this site for one? Thanks in advance, David.
  15. The new caps are only a few pounds on ebay matey
  16. i'm in the same situation matey... i want some experience too
  17. because they know they ban get away with... although the XP models will no doubtedly have a better crank case and other engine parts.
  18. Makita's are also very reputable. The Echo's seem a little low on power imo compared to the Stihls, although the Stihls are well expensive. Alot of people i have spoke to prefer a small rear handled saw, they're light enough to chuck around from side to side and cost half the price.

    Stihl MS180

Thats why i bought one, it is my first saw and i didn't want to spend hundreds of pounds on a bigger saw just to ruin it. Even a decent second hand 'pro' saw is commanding top money... Although i do seem to now have C.A.D. so i am looking at a bigger one already

    Stihl MS180

yeah i agree, but people just seem to flame them... i wouldn't want to be cutting with it all day, but it ain't that bad

    Stihl MS180

Yeah, it does tend to kick a bit. I rate it, i would rather use the 180 that the 025's we have at work at the moment, they're ok, but nothing speciat for the extra weight they carry over the 180. I am considering getting a 240, any thoughts?

    Stihl MS180

Why do people rubbish these saws on this site but the guys on the arboristsite.com rate them highly? I have one and it's a grea little saw, fair enough it is not comparable to a bigger 'pro' saw but for the money i think it is a cracker!
  23. probably a wee bit too farthen... lol
  24. Thanks mate, i hope so! Where abouts are you then?
  25. Hi Bob, i am based in Kirkby In Ashfield, in Nottinghamshire. I just want to do some cutting, whether it be cutting firewood or whatever. Can't wait to get my tickets. I work for Mansfield District Council and they only want groundies as the insurance costs are too high for anything else apparently... but i intend on paying for the climbing courses myself, even if they don't utilise them i still want to do them. Get back to me, many thanks, David.
