Hey I'm not having a go at you mate. I had no intentions of buying it, I was sat down waiting for someone so just thought I would bid through boredom. Now I have got myself in to an 8 hour round trip to fetch it!! If I don't like it then it will be back on there. BTW that was my maximum bid on the saw. Will get some pics up when I get it.

And if you're looking at buying a new saw then i reckon you should sell the 362xp to free up a few more £££'s...

No mate, it wasn't a spanker. Here it is: Stihl Chainsaw 044 on eBay (end time 19-Jan-11 15:57:56 GMT) I think i will stick with the 20" for the time being seeing as the bar is new and he is going to put me a new chain on it tomorrow. Picking it up sunday morning. 4hour drive!

Great! The seller says it has a 19" bar but that seems a bit of a weird size to me. What you think?

Ok, so i won an 044 from ebay and was just wondering what it would do? I know it is around 70cc but what size bar is it comfortable with etc. Anyone own one or use one? What are they like? Cheers.
  9. you got a link for one? And where's my pm!!!
  10. I know the words decent and cheap don't really go together but does anyone know of a tach that gives reliable readings for chainsaws upto about 15k but is pretty cheap? Cheers, David.
  11. I found 5 days plenty to learn the saw and how to fell tree's up to 15". They teach you three cuts, and when you're cutting 10-15 trees a day that is plenty to learn each cut. Obviously the longer the course the better but 5 days was sufficient enough for the 4 of us on the course to all pass first time with no problems what so ever.... Just my opinion though.
  12. Good advice, I recommended he do it with the saw though, then it is just one continuous operation rather than stop and use chalk then start the saw again etc.
  13. Don't be silly mate, you will be fine. And welcome to Arbtalk btw.
  14. Look at the thread that odd_bird started... he was in a similar predicament to you.
  15. You will need your own kit for the course. You should familiarize yourself with it ALL before hand so that when you turn up it isn't as much to take in. Look into some previous posts regarding saws and parts etc so you know what everything is...
  16. Good for you mate. I'm sure you will be just fine!
  17. The dust is because you are cutting against the grain... Glad you found the marking out helpful. Try and make the gob clean so there isn't any lips on there. Make sure it's clean before you start the back cut otherwise you won't impress the assessor. You will be fine on Monday mate, what does your tutor say? Is it a 5 day course?
  18. I would want the dealer to come out and pull the cord for me for that price!! Lol.
  19. Good spot... although I have seen a few blue boxes. He says he has the receipt though... hmmm I'll stick to my 346 and 357...
  20. Just wondered if this was worth the muller? Husqvarna 576 XP G Auto Tune, X Torq, Heated grips on eBay (end time 19-Jan-11 14:19:44 GMT) Looks pretty slick to me, but starting at 500 notes its a bit of a big step to take to press 'place bid' lol
  21. I am cool as a cucumber... good luck on the 262xp lol.
