  1. Impartiality is hard work mate! The thing I've learnt this time, 20 years later, is that what is "good" for one user is less so for another. Not the application, but the user. Not so much lab analysis on this one, more test beds, uoa and duty cycle analysis. Engines were larger displacement than the range I wanted to include. I wanted air cooled hatz single cylinder, high speed idi and then the bigger stuff. Due to Plymouth Uni asset changes, longer term tests had to move into base load generators which knackers mixed duty cycle observations. Part load was doable but not mixed rpm, temperature extremes etc. Lines of Jenbachers in individual containers vs Cummins QSV's in a shared room. These are the variables that skew "lab conditions". Still we wanted real world life-cycle analysis despite the challenges.
  2. Waiting on parts from Mexico so started the end of the beginning of this report today; my head seriously hurts!
  3. Off Highway Brakes and Controls Ltd Very on the ball; preempted my enquiry and organised things asap, altho the part I need is in Mexico! Old machine; not surprising... Love it when you get service above the norm tho.
  4. .404 harvester? I'm currently trialing some Rotatech aka Piranha (?) on the harvester; lost its edge very very rapidly. Didn't put it on a brand spanking bar but soon got fed up (after a good few tries) that I just whipped it off and put Oregon 18HX back on - problem instantly solved and stayed like it. I will put the Piranha on the grinder when I get chance and have a few more goes but sorry to pre-empt my report - not looking great so far... I can with 18HX put a hundred ton of first thinnings or 1000 of log through no problem before noticeable drop in cutting speed; this was smoking after 10 tonnes. I even upped the oiler to be sure. Only cutting hemlock!
  5. Haha Yes! Freedom from broke machines is the life I promise. No good for saw shops tho
  6. The 620 has been out a good while now. come on.
  7. Been a R&T customer for years; had nigh on a hundred saws from them in that time; they're not BS'ing me.
  8. I'm going to buy all 3 at the end of the month. Just off the 'phone from Radmore & Tucker; not a single one of the above models back to them for any issues... Love it
  9. Varta or Exide I use; stable and reliable. Yuasa good too altho I've had one cell failure under warranty - replaced immediately. I'd just put the biggest that will fit in the trailer battery compartment; biggest in terms of CCA and total Ah that is. I've got a pair of Exide ER650s in a machine; 142Ah each in a 24v system. Marine grade which is good for the angles the machine encounters. One battery centre wanted £150 each or £280 for a pair. Timber Trail 4x4 did them for £102.50 each with free delivery...
  10. Good point re hardwoods; last time I was on the 46 was felling and converting elms. Last saw work was brashing; no thanks 460! Yes please Dol 115 I'm becoming a proper pussy.
  11. That 0.5 Kg will just make you stronger. It's like chainsaws for Alpinists! I used to use a 460 all day instead of a 5105; less bending over with a longer bar, more firepower = more work done, less backache.
  12. I think this is exactly what TCF used to do... Think Petemate390 used to do them
  13. The video in the link was just shown on ITV news...
  14. Cue the Ayatroller...! Wouldn't touch one with a bargepole. I would say this tho. I pre-ordered the 560 when first announced, and likewise the 550 when Chris Sheppard got his. Both went back to the dealer within a month. Gutted but seen the light since. Imo and Ime of course.
  15. This is the ultimate bang your head against a brick wall thread.
  16. He won't be POTUS tho, Hilary will. Then watch stuff get even worse (altho not from a lefty libtard perspective obviously; pandemonium is the order of the day. The more folks off their heads the better). A different one to you. The one on the right, not the one on the left. Easy to tell them apart.
  17. Saying that, UKIP have got it badly wrong re GM crops... And bringing back smoking in public places
  18. We'll see what looks ludicrous looks like in 30 years eh.
  19. This is mad lol
  20. Woodchip wanted, not G grade biomass, just arb chipper stuff. Preferably hardwood derived. Plymouth area if anyone needs to tip off in the area... Cheers.
