  1. Graeham is an absolute legend!!! I wonder if there's any videos of him pruining a little fruit tree on someones back yard off a pair of step ladders:001_tongue:
  2. .....me too!!
  3. That looks sweet mate, nice one:thumbup:. Dont worry about the bulge to much mate they usually settle down with a bit of use. Onto the next one now..........when your hands recover:001_tongue:
  4. just get it milked from eye to knot and knot to eye a few times, taper the new cores and bobs your mother's brother:thumbup:
  5. I feed the threads from the new core through the fid, bend them round the pointed end and then pull on the rope. The fid needs to be anchored for this though. Other than that pull like a mother.......... Lookin good still though mate, its nearly there now and the hard parts done! Good man!!
  6. No worries mate any time. That splice is looking really nice though, nice tight eye. Just take your time on the crossover and that should be a bang on splice:thumbup1:
  7. Some quality pictures there stephen:thumbup1:. Looked like some big old girls!!
  8. Ive just had a search and all his vids seem to of gone:confused1: Thats crap!! The samson instructions are pretty good though. Dont try and do the bury all in one though like they suggest. Do it two its much easier.
  9. Nice work mate:thumbup1:,looked a fair old size. I love boshing sycamores down, they can get a bit wobbly up top though!!
  10. If its an old rope it will be a bit more work especially when you get to the crossover. New ropes are much easier. At the point where you extract the core manipulate and bend it around a bit to loosen it up a tad. Once you gt a couple of strands out it will become easier(dont try and pull all the core out in one). I use a couple of different awls depending what rope im doing. If yours is really pointy then deffinatly round it off a bit! If its sharp it will catch random strands quite alot. Hey Carl-no thats not the new taper but i did try it out the other day on some tachyon and it worked a treat:thumbup1:
  11. The best instructions to follow are probably samsons. Brian toss has also got some vids up on youtube. 16 strand is quite easy its just the crossover where you might have some issues dont catch any strands or it can be a nightmare!! haha
  12. What can i say mate!....i love trees!! But just for you mate ive changed it! Hope you like this one!! haha
  13. Its splices like this that give hand splicing a bad name and so everyone stays clear!! There's no way i could of sent a splice out like that knowing that someone is going to be putting there life on it. For someone not as experienced as Rich this could of had really bad consequences. Here's a pic of how they should look:biggrin:
  14. OOOHHH sounds exciting:biggrin: The anticipation's killing me!!! haha
  15. Thats deffinatly not right mate!! It looks like there was no taper what so ever and kind of looks like they've just fed a fid through and just tried ramming the crap out of it!! Was the purple inner core still in there too? If you need it splicing mate id be happy to do it for you.
  16. No critisism taken mate. There's no need to have the whipping so close to the eye. Stitching a bit lower down is the same as stitching at the eye,its just a damn site easier!! haha. At the end of the day its personal prefernce and this is how i was tought so thats what i do. Trying to put the whipping at the eye of some double braid though is really hard to do as the the crossover is seriously hard whereas on 16strand its easy. The whipping is only there for when the eye isn't loaded anyway as a splice works a bit like a chinese finger trap.
  17. Like Jamie says holllow braids are really easy to do. Mesterh-i'll try get some step by step photos up when ive got time. I always mean to take some pics but i always forget till half way through:blushing:.
  18. Here's a couple from today:biggrin:
  19. Haha! That sounds about right for marlow! In my opinion the easiest rope to splice is yale scorch. If you are learning though its alot easier to learn on new rope.
  20. aww well it was worth a try!! The hardest part was making sure all my gear was pointing the right way to look authentic:001_tongue:. hey Bolt i live in a rough area mate that was to keep the kids from attacking us!! haha
  21. God this could take a while!.........best get siffting through the hard drive. Here's couple while i look:biggrin:
  22. Cheeers mate,i cant do a tree without the v's now mate for fear of dissapointing you:biggrin:. Here's a couple more from this morning.
  23. Some stunning shots there David:thumbup1:. I think the one with your son flying through mid air is awesome!! Arbtalk will soon become photographytalk at this rate!! haha Keep them comming mate.
  24. Haha, believe me mate it was deffinatly considered, long and hard!!! Bit hard to tell from the pics but all the weight was over the back end of the tree and the trunk is hollow so a decent hinge might of been an issue!!
  25. Nice work mate:thumbup1:. Did you enjoy swingin about in a big tree then?
