  4. Hello, Just a quick word to see if anyone needs a bit of help at weekends? I currently work full time as landscape operative for the council however am looking to gain more experience with tree surgery as thats my main goal. I have my CS30/31, CS38, woodchipper cert, Sprayer PA1/PA6 and trailer license. I have had groundsman experience before with previous employment. Cheers, Jay
  5. The council are putting me through my PA1 and PA6W, allows me to spray on or beside water. Would be good to have i suppose, the calculations on the course won't be looked at once i've passed though.
  6. Doesn't sound good! are you not on personal insurance or medical plans to help cover it?
  7. I just bought the Husqvarna Rain Jacket, looks sound don't know how breathable it will be though!
  8. New Harness! mice got at the padding the stripper's come at new year!
  9. -6 degrees yesterday morning with me, got a dusting of snow but nothing to stop traffic.. YET.
  10. I'm currently working with my local council at the moment and the same incident happened a couple weeks ago with my chargehand. Although it was a much greater distance it shows how far those little stones can carry, complete accident as both parties understood, insurance details swapped, management informed etc. Happened to bump into the guy who owned the car and turns out they refused to pay up. Absolutely crazy just shows however much you follow the rules sometimes it doesn't work!
  11. going to be good! Dwaine is the best or swamp loggers
  12. I see the Husky 346xp has a reccomended guide bar length of 13"-18", will it take an 18" comfortably? i have a MS260 and it struggles a bit. Jay
  13. I would bite your hand off at that mate, i'm 19 as well, work wednesday to saturday at a shop to earn some extra cash to pay for petrol and towards my training courses. Sunday is housework and car cleaning day, monday and tuesday i do tree work for a family member (no charge) i enjoy the work and in return i get some of my smaller purchases paid for ie gloves, chains, 2-stroke. Would like to think of myself as hard working anyway. Jay
  14. Cheers guys! Haven't got the course notes yet but thought if i had to get one best do it now so i have it in time but thanks for clearing it up for me Jay
  15. Hi guys, Got my CS32 coming up a week tomorrow so just getting my prep done. I have a 15" on my MS270 and a 16" on my MS260 will they be enough? i thought about buying a 18" or even a 20" (if they are powerful enough to take it?) what do yous think? will my standard kit be alright for the job? Cheers, Jay
  16. Gransfors Brux small forest axe maybe? Jay
  17. Got my saw back the other day cost me £57.50 with the VAT added on, turned out to be sawdust in the carb that was causing it to cut out something i probably could have done myself but i thought it would be best to get the whole thing thoroughly looked over. Took it back to the house and fired her up second pull and the cord jams at full length (a few well chosen words were used) so back on the phone and they told me they could not promise anything but would have a look, well i knew it was the recoil spring but i took it in anyway. The chap informed me that they never took the starter housing off to which i thought would be a main point in a full service... "oh did you want the whole thing looked at? i thought you just wanted us to clean the carb out?" i wasn't impressed but i asked for a spring to suit.. he retreived one from stock and then asked if they would like them to fit it for me (another half hours labour charge) no... took it home and fitted it within a couple minutes. In all a rather useless waste of money!
  18. That would be great Mark i'll send you a PM It's a Stihl MS260. I have a MS270 and love it! thought it would do for a good spare if anythin went wrong (like other day when i hit some fencing wire that had grown into the tree ) i'll see what comes out from it might not be too bad but will look into sorting it myself next time gotta learn somehow Jay
  19. Don't worry about it! I just about messed up a split level cut on my assesment! stopped told the assesor what i'd done wrong i corrected it felled it safely and passed. Don't beat yourself up over it Jay
  20. Well they're certainly off my list rather travel the extra distance. Its the second strike went in for a replacement chain a good while ago and they supplied a 1.5mm gauge rather than a 1.6 didnt realise till i was halfway through the life of it! Should have checked though so can't say too much Jay
  21. Think i'm going to, if it takes a couple hours work plus spare parts would hav been just as well payin a bit extra and getting a new MS261
  22. Recently bought a saw off ebay, got home filled it up and seemed to be working fine. Took it out a few days later to cut some leylandi started, idled and kept dying out. Checked all the usual things spark plug, fuel and air filter, starter cord and spring, i didnt want to go fiddling about with the carb or anythin as i haven't had a lot of experience. Took it to my nearest Stihl dealer after a days work with my usual saw, its not my prefered dealer but it is a lot closer! they penciled it in told me they would give me a call once they looked at it and if i would pay on delivery to which i replied yes and asked for a rough estimate. She replied "i'm not sure, we charge £49 an hour plus VAT and any parts on top of that." :scared1: Is that the norm? i'm sure i can get it done a hell of a lot cheaper at the other dealer or even a bloody garden centre! Jay
  23. Been using a pair of Elten Aquafell's for a couple years now and have to say they're really nice, once i got them worn in (after a few days) i found myself using them for more than work. Decided to buy myself a pair of Husqvarna technical boots havent used them yet but they will get a bit of work soon. Both of which are higher length boots as i havent been doing any climbing yet. Regards, Jay
