  1. Looking for more felling work myself to fill the calendar for the new year. Anyone know of any particular jobs out there.
  2. I hope my ignorance of this particular subject doesnt come accross as a general lack of knowledge regarding saw and chain maintenance.
  3. Obviously I take all marketing "facts" with a pinch of salt, thats why I wondered if any of you had experience with this method of sharpening. Personally I'm not sure if its worth it, like you say Andy the minimal gains you could make are probably outweighed by the increased time and frequency of sharpening.
  4. To be honest I know nothing about square ground cutters, but I stumbled upon this "ATOP filing guide" and wondered if anyone knew why you would grind cutters square instead of round. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TN_rzTVkpss]YouTube - The ATOP Square Chainsaw Filing Guide from baileysonline.com[/ame]
  5. No I mean instead of using a round file you use a square edged file. I've heard of them used in the US and Canada and that they are quicker cutting, but thats all. I'm intereste dt know if anyone over here uses them, and if not then why?
  6. Does anyone here use square ground chains and if so what are the pros and cons and ultimately is it worth it?
  7. If you could that would be great. Is it John Colley by any chance, I saw him there a while back.
  8. Shame. I would have liked to work there. I was shown around by Peter with the prospect of doing my placement year there but it didnt materialise. Is there much contract work to do there?
  9. Did you work on the estate. I heard they have gone over completely to contractors now and lost their in house staff
  10. Where abouts? I'm in Mavis Enderby just west of Spilsby
  11. Are you looking at selling the uncut timber standing or will you be harvesting it yourself. Have you got a standing volume for the crop aswell.
  12. try ultimate ear | Ear Plugs | Hearing and Ear Protection London UK seem a little pricey though
  13. Yes I am based near Spilsby how did you guess?
  14. Thanks for that. I'm currently based on the southern end of the Lincolnshire Wolds. Any ideas of who might provide training and/or assesment and where they are in the country?
  15. Trying to find how the system of training and/or certification works with FMOC. I'm trying to learn more about the use of agri based extraction machinery.
  16. yeah but I could fit it in with going down to london to see the GF. The offer is there if you really need it.
  17. I could be available if there isnt anyone nearer. Just let me know where when and any other details.

    Bars & chains

Interested to know who you all think makes the best chains, bars and sprockets, why are they the best and for the more obscure brands where can you get them. Im using Stihl for everything and think they're great, but is there something out there better?
  19. Any progress on the new type of 'chipper'
  20. Are you looking for employees or would you be prepared to take on a sub contractor?
  21. I've been looking into doing the PTS training but am unsure as to whether a) is there much work out there for small sub contractors looking to branch out b) how accessible the training is and c) how much does it cost. ANy advice from those of you already doing this type of work would be great.
  22. Nice tidy job, however I hate the finish flails leave on larger material, shattered ends are not good. Better than it was before though.
  23. Do you think using this type of equipment is cost effective. Does it increase your work rate enough to justify the cost. Don't really have much experience with them but would be interesting to see a study on it. Something for the FdSc Arbs maybe Mark?
  24. Can I have your details for my missus, she works with the birds at ZSL and they are always after perches.
