  1. Love depeche mode mate.........the first line could've been written about the old guy..... 'Condemnation.........why.........here on the stand with a book in my hand' Maybe it was a tree ID book................
  2. Condemnation was a song by depeche mode................
  3. Alright mate, i think is only right you defend the guy if you know him and think he's ok..........have you had a chance to speak to him since the programme was aired to see if he was being guided in any way as to what they wanted him to say or what they were wanting to achieve??? Any idea when it was filmed??? that helmet he provided for him to try climbing in wasn't really upto scratch either was it???
  4. Can anybody point me in the direction of the new helmet regulations for climbing??? Cheers
  5. Probably because the BBC aint interested or understand the fact that trees are actually living things and all they want is a bit of drama, the trees health plays second fiddle to that!!!!!!
  6. He wasn't trying very hard then, if he'd done more than a week at college, he'd not have that harness on for starters, and maybe some proper PPE, i thought that limb was gonna take the ladder out from underneath him!!!!!!
  7. Thats what i do......blame the misses....................
  8. Remember its the tree surgeon one tonight!!!!!
  9. Well just had a phonecall from one of the lads and he has broken 2 bones in his back, but they reckon he'll be fine!!!!
  10. There were 2 climbing and only 5 of us in the group and i was extra cos i'd been in doing my CS30 and 31 and had gone up to do the touch tapes.
  11. Definately..........another change over and it could've been a different story!!!!!
  12. I'd have been up for that with more notice!!!!
  13. Exactly what i was thinking when they were there in minutes of the call and checking him over, the paramedic, which was the car type, took a good 10-15 mins to get there!!!!!
  14. I dont know him mate, but they talk about a lad called Andrew who's meant to be tall and holds the fastest times on the touch tapes there.
  15. I'd say it was avoidable, but hard to know exactly what went wrong........he's had the same climbing tutor as the rest of us and its constantly drummed into us to take our time and check, check and check again...........when climbing on both ends of the rope i always take the weight on the line i've just put in before detatching the first line, besides you'd be hard pushed to open a kabiner and take it off your harness when its weight loaded, so i can only guess that the second line he put in maybe didnt lock onto his harness, but gave him enough support to detatch his first line before it popped off.......he said he didnt remember what happened before or falling, its the first climbing accident the college has had apparently so dont know exactly what they'll do about it, we all got called to reception as soon as the chopper left and told to write witness statements. Hopefully he'll be alright and it wont put him off, but i think it'll slow a few people down climbing for a bit!!!! It does make you step back and think about things and how safe you are and how easy things can go wrong if you're not paying proper attention all the time............the ironic thing is, he was asking all morning about accidents and whether anyone had fallen out of a tree before!!!!!!
  16. Kirkley Hall mate in northumberland.
  17. It was the first time i've climbed with the lad today, others say he's quite competent usually, not nice to see happen though and worse have happen to you.............i was amazed at how quick people descended on the field........nearly beat the chopper!!!!!!
  18. Yeah it was all in place mate, it seems to have been when he realeased the first line he put up and was changing over, maybe he didnt connect to his harness properly or the karabiner didnt close, not good whatever really, sickening sound as he hit the ground...........
  19. Well today i saw my first climbing related accident.........a lad at college was on his way up a tree and changing his rope position then next thing we know down he came with a thud!!!!! Not sure what happened, all his knots were intact but nothing into his harness!!!!!! The air ambulance gave him some IV drugs and took him off to hospital.
  20. More like how not to deal with a hung up tree!!!!!
