Yes, sorry meant 57 DL chain, the standard 56 DL for the 150 won’t fit.

They fit no problem mate, with no modifications required.

Have you tried RobD at chainsawbars.co.uk? The best combo (by a mile) I have tried is a Stihl 150 bar with a Stihl 56 DL chain, which fit straight on. Skyland should have them in stock.

I did it loads when I was young and hungry for cash mate. Most of the customers never got me back after stage one of killing their trees, and told their friends. I know what you’re saying mate, but perhaps if I’d been better equipped with knowledge back then we could have achieved some more favourable outcomes for them and their trees?

Thanks Alex, all taken on board. Every day is a school day. I found the WQ’s controls jerky at first, but ‘feathering’ them came pretty quickly. I’d be the first to say I’m no machine operator like Doobin. I have the touch of a rapist.

Shifting rings like Doobin says, shifting grinder arisings and sawdust, and piling brash straight into it. You can also fix plates to the side to make a Heath Robinson bucket with the grab upright, as I’ll sub to a few builder mates. I do see the grab as a must, like. I’ll also want to move the chipper with it on some jobs. Cast make a dedicated plate with a 50mm ball, and attachments are easy on/off, but I’d probably fab up a cheapo that fixes to the bucket. It’s all good, there are so many options. How do you transport your machine Alex? I’m keen to see a vid of someone loading one up ramps into a Transit bed or similar.

No mate, that’s the only one he had there. Seemed pretty knowledgable about the other attachments though. That’s the one I’d get first anyway.

You need to show the customer some pictures of trees that have been hammered and explain that they will actually get LESS light through the dense, vigorous regrowth. Your original 3rd option may be the best, but don’t overthin them, beeches don’t like it.

@David Humphries? It’s possible someone wanted to spike up the tree, but not at the front of it where it could be seen. The dilemma then is how you tell the difference between the front and back of a tree? Well you wouldn’t have a shite round the front of a tree, would you?
