  1. I tend to stand there stroking my chin and make builder noises:001_smile:
  2. Thanks for your concern Tony, it got better when I took the cat for a walk, then I read this thread again. Down to about a five now as it's getting a bit easier to understand. Lets stay with the red /orange thing:001_smile:
  3. Why not call the area between red and orange..."Don't Know"?
  4. Half an hour ago my head didn't hurt at all, now I'd give it about a 7:001_smile:
  5. My own subjective score for your post Tony is 10/10 as always:001_smile: My Science / quantitative head gives you a -2/10 Unless of course you wan't to get into paradigm busting then the second score goes up a bit:001_smile: I hate it when the doctor says 'how much does it hurt...on a scale of 1-10'. I always want to argue with him on the parameters or basis of his scale:001_smile: Edit: Peer review and replicability takes some of the subjectivity out of data interpretation.
  6. I could be wrong Tony but something that is, or claims to be, Subjective... by definition would not rely on a quantitative measure like statistics.
  7. You can use your UK licence for a year then you just do the written part of the NZ test to get an NZ one . Pre 97 UK licences get a slightly heavier truck but not HT which equates to a UK HGV licence.
  8. Good effort jonny ...but allas....you will find that the only way to win a debate with Tony is to glue his picture to your off button. I had done this by Oct 2009 and found it effective. Then I got to quite like him...you get used to it all after a while:001_smile:
  9. These things as Agg says tend to need a 'vehicle' to carry them. For example the original EU and global environmental legislation was based on military or arms agreements as the 'vehicle' was already in place for this type of thing. Following this line of thinking I wonder if you could use an SSI type 'vehicle' for individual trees. Just thinking aloud:001_smile:
  10. Good thoughtful post that is woodpile...almost poetic in places:thumbup1:
  11. I thought this word, worth a google and a post. I guess polemics don't get invited to many dinner parties:001_smile: A polemic. A contentious argument that is intended to establish the truth of a specific belief and the falsity of the contrary belief. A person who often writes polemics, or who speaks polemically, is a polemicist or a polemic. The word is derived from the Greek word meaning "warlike, hostile", which comes from polemos, "war". Along with debate, polemics are one of the most common forms of arguing. Similar to debate, a polemic is confined to a definite controversial thesis. But unlike debate, which may allow for common ground between the two disputants, a polemic is intended only to establish the truth of a point of view while refuting the opposing point of view.
  12. I spent half the day today scanning 300 pages of Rachel Carson's 'Silent Spring" into my macbook along with a book called 'Lifting the Lid' which is about composting toilets. I haven't had access to my library for years, so now I'm scanning it in for easy access. I'm gonna be such an environmental pain in the arse when I'm done that you won't know what's hit you Tony. You won't believe the books I have on capitalism....all the classics. Just gotta read em again now.
  13. Yet in your climate change thread you supported that dick head that gave me a hard time...these things are linked Tony.... A little consistency would be nice me old todger:001_smile: Edit: I have a long memory
  14. Ask her what hippopotomonstrosesquipedalianism is....If she doesn't know ...Sack her:001_smile:
  15. Public sector waste ...where to start. How about generations of school teachers and police officers blagging early pensions on the sick...and the last two tree officers in Cheshire took early retirement. The last one was younger than me and we'll be paying his pension for the next 40 years....way longer than he worked. The government will pick easy targets and not the real problem which is our massively wasteful and piss taking public sector...half the working population by the way.
  16. Thanks Tone....I know a kiwi on this forum who's pretty out there:001_smile:
  17. hippopotomonstrosesquipedalian.....Not appropriate in this case but I've got it in 5 times today:001_smile: I hope I'm not overdoing it:001_smile:
  18. We know what Tony's like by now...He's a bit nuts like me... cut him some slack aye boys. He does put a lot in when he's not having one of his turns:001_smile:
  19. Sorry I'm late...I was having a debate with my cat about hippopotomonstrosesquipedalianism ....My head hurts:001_smile:
  20. I know some pigs that are more intelligent and more sentient than some tree surgeons that I have known:001_smile: Maybe we should shoot tree surgeons to train combat medics:001_smile:
  21. I got it off Wicki....it was love at first sight... I'm just trying to be able to say it now....never mind remember it:001_smile:
  22. Tony S is in one of his hippopotomonstrosesquipedalian moods:001_smile: I put this in the other thread by accident...more appropriate here...but wearing thin by now:001_smile: What's the difference between an axiom and a paradigm Tony.S?
  23. Tony S is in one of his hippopotomonstrosesquipedalian moods:001_smile:
  24. We have a class system in this country... Without Opera the toffs would have to go to Dingwalls with us plebs... That just wouldn't be right:001_smile:
