  1. Posted this one on my Redwood Forest Facebook page today, and Save the Redwood's League page ... which it looks like they put it up as a "Magic Monday" shot. Sunrise beaming down the Smith River onto Stout Grove in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park. A view worth remembering.
  2. This house ... maybe you saw it ... is also in Eureka, directly across from the Carson Mansion. It's called the Pink Lady. Then the next place is a few blocks away in Eureka too. The 3rd attachment is another "local" of Arcata / Eureka, as is the stack of wood, too.
  3. LOL ... we posted so many photos in this one ... had to review to see all that was covered. Recalling kidding around in another picture thread, thought I'd interject the photo I took of the one gal from Arcata. We also took red dress photos at a spot near the Carson Mansion that I posted earlier.
  4. Those Sitka Spruce like that can be found pretty much on and off all the way up the coast from the redwoods, through Oregon, Washington, and even into B.C., along the coast. Cannon Beach area is also a favorite ... the whole stretch of coast north and south of it too for quite some ways. **************** Redwood on the edge of the bank above Mill Creek, in Jedediah Smith Redwood State Park ..
  5. Although these are not huge, I sure enjoy passing through this stand of Sitka Spruce, entering Jedediah Smith redwoods. There's also lots of nice ones on the drive from Hy. 101 to Gold Bluffs Beach / Fern Canyon.
  6. After a 1pm to 4pm deluge of rain subsided, I went back to Stout Grove, and encountered the photo shoot of a wedding, which apparently had held-off during the rain too. It rained so much in a few hours, someone noted on my Redwood Forest Facebook page, that Eureka had broken the daily rainfall record.
  7. That one in post #99 ^ is outstanding ... *************** Since 100% rain was forecast for Saturday afternoon, I just went back for a Friday, Saturday and Sunday, because the wet season is the ultimate. Not sure if you passed though Hiouchi, visiting Jedediah Smith Redwoods, but a woman serving at the cafe, mentioned the man who helps had a Mustang he was hoping for photos of. Asked him to bring his Ford into the park around 5pm Thursday.
  8. Don't own a bike ... used to though ... two of them. But do enjoy taking photos of them. Taken with a Fisheye lens ...
  9. Seems virtually no other tree can fall and splinter like a Coast Redwood if it lands a certain way. ...
  10. Nice sun flare on that top photo. So you evidently caught Stout Grove after one of it's big limbs or stems broke out. The look on the ground will change a lot again into autumn and spring as the dry foliage disintegrates and the ferns push back up through the debris again. Only takes like two to three years and seems as if nothing happened. I found a favorite group of trunks in Stout Grove where I photography people almost every visit now. I take an LED light panel down in there to bump the light on their face just a hint. Same spot where I photographed the red model when she's shown holding my extra camera. The man below is in that cluster of trunks, as is the boy.
  11. LOL ... The fallen Dyerville Giant. And then there's those signs saying to stay off fallen logs ... but there's kids running across the top of them every few minutes. That Humboldt Redwoods State Park is remarkable. This photo is actually in Jedediah Smith, but I was laying on my back looking up as you described.
  12. Ha !! Don't have any photos of a local Scotian, but do have a photo from Scotia ... This photo stitch is sure going to look puny in the forum thread though ...
  13. Those were taken with two lenses. Sigma 85mm f/1.4 Canon 135mm L f/2.0
  14. A couple more ... The field is being conserved for an 8 acre habitat, and a different 1/3 is mowed each year.
  15. Funny .. know what you mean about not crashing. It's not rare that I need to park the truck and get out to walk because I find it's easy to get distracted rubber-necking at the trees. Actually, there's a butt-load of transients in Eureka / Arcata. Per city block, I'd swear it's in league with Portland near the waterfront and downtown. ...
  16. Oh ... To go along with that last bit of red I posted from the Arcata / Eureka area, here's some "wood" to go with it. red + wood ... ....
  17. Later tonight or tomorrow, let me follow-up about the cameras and lenses. I've got an appointment to shoot with a man, Alejandro, in Portland, shortly. That woman is from Arcata, and I did a few photos for her and her friend around Arcata and Eureka during my last visit, late evening when I returned from a day exploring near Avenue of the Giants. Did you get to see the Carson Mansion in Eureka? It overlooks the structure where this photo of the same woman was taken ..... LOL ... I did spot this "homeless" duo traveling, but up at Jedediah Smith redwoods that last trip. I let them (and their dog) hitch a ride up near Roseburg, Oregon, on my way back to Portland. Surprised me ... the guy with the guitar, is a photography enthusiast, and actually had a decent quality Canon EOS camera on him.
  18. The past year I've transitioned to motel ... But that cargo trailer of mine in the photo provided several years worth of help for my adventures.
  19. For the big trees and model with dresses, I shot both tripod and handheld, and opted for a Tokina 16-28mm f/2.8 ... As dark as it is, I really don't use filters, so went with the Tokina which as good optically as Canon's 16-35mm L but at half the price.
  20. Don't have a tractor, but like taking photos of them. This man was mowing the field at the one and only weekly lawn and tree care account I have. He mows on the side as a hobby income, and very much likes his blue Ford ...
  21. This is the blue dress version I prefer for large print ... like the wide layout for this one location because it seems to give more sense of place. Ordered a test print last night to see how it looks as 20 inches x 30 inches ...
  22. Yes ... And then there is Arcata ... LOL ... one of the locals
  23. The tree we were trying to photograph before the water reflection shot, earlier in the morning, was this one ... massive cathedral redwood in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park ...
  24. A new Arcata, California, publication picked this shot below of the same woman, for an ad in the Sept. 2013 edition for my photography stuff. It was a trade of one advertisment for use of my Smith River photo in one of their articles.
  25. Mr. Bullman ... Another shot of the redwood "poster girl" ... lol The conversation this week reminded me of this photo I took in August after our 3rd shoot in the redwoods. On the way out, we stopped by Prairie Creek to try a water reflection photo. Also, after test prints, it was evident that a 16 x 20 inch photo is a better crop than a 20 x 30 for the redwood shot in the OP, because it focuses more on the tree than the wood. The ultra wide angle lens makes the fallen limb wood seem bigger than it really is. This redwood photo with the red dress is on my new website ... >>> www.vadenphotography.com ... ...
