  1. The thinner bark implies it may be coast redwood, not Sequoiadendron And coast redwood is the widest and tallest species in the USA. Both species get as large or larger than the photo in the first post. Still hard to imagine working with trunks that big even with equipment of our time.
  2. The bride wanted to walk around some big redwood trees after their wedding in the same Prairie Creek park.
  3. Last spring we donated a portrait session and print canvas at a fund-raising dinner for a youth group. Here's the photo the winning bid family picked for a 24 inch x 36 inch print canvas.
  4. Over 90 meters tall with a 25 meter trunk girth.
  5. Photo from a few years ago before a metal boardwalk was built through here. Some of the boardwalk was needed, but they sort of went overkill spots, and even worked on wet soil under the trees in winter.
  6. The visitor center at Richardson Grove, a short drive south from Avenue of the Giants.
  7. Giant coast redwood in a grove described in THE WILD TREES (2007)
  8. Finally back to the redwoods, first time since last November. Didn't realize I had cataracts, and got the eye surgery and stuff squared-away this winter. Here's 2 images merged, taken through a vintage Contax Zeiss 28mm. Many of this year's photos will be done with potential for wall size prints or murals as well as small print or display.
  9. Through the "eyes" on an old vintage Leica lens ...
  10. Two visitors among many we met this week. The man reminds me of Bono (U2). For those who enjoy redwoods, feel free to join my 15,000 followers on Facebook >>> REDWOOD FOREST on FACEBOOK
  11. A couple years ago, I met two men from England who flew overseas to see Redwood National Park twice within the year.
  12. A view from the old gravel / dirt road
  13. Life over in Humboldt
  14. Headed to the redwoods again this week. May be on the lookout for Rhododendrons.
  15. Shared this photo today at my "REDWOOD FOREST" page at Facebook.
  16. The guy in this scene, from Germany, is chomping at the bit to return. Last year's plans were choked by the virus chaos.
  17. More fun in the rain.
  18. The rainy season, like winter, is my favorite in the redwoods
  19. Revisiting a favorite redwood found a few years ago. Fog and rain were forecast for today, so I drove to the coast for some hiking and mild bushwhacking.
  20. I've met the cloning clan and am familiar with their stuff. But the reality of redwoods is that growers could get bigger and taller trees from seed. The largest existing are not superior, merely just old and big.
  21. Gerald Beranek in what seems to be Prairie Creek park. Photo by GFB ...
  22. The video of the OP probably hints at the age. About 100 years. Maybe 95 years if planted about when the old historic house was built in the 1920s.
  23. 2020 UPDATE Remeasured after the growing season. Now 213.08 feet. One foot - a fair gain for one of the lowest rainfall years in quite some time.
  24. When a tree does not fall in the forest ...
  25. Rhamnus / Cascara tree in Jedediah Smith redwood park ...
