  1. This is one wall of wood I especially enjoyed finding.
  2. Not common. Actually, I think there would be several buyers willing to pay good money, who could make many interesting high-end decorations from that. Either debark and finish it as it looks, carve into it, use the opening for a frame .... whatever. If I had it, I'd definitely finish it. Probably would choose to stand upright and just leave as a stained natural sculpture.
  3. I posted a different outfit of this woman in the thread > VISITING THE REDWOODS .... but have not posted this photo yet. Same woman, but in green. What about firm, rather than big?
  4. Indisputably, it can now be said that Bigfoot was found in the Coast Redwoods. Shown below is "Bigfoot" ... a huge tree in Redwood National and State Parks. We are calling this recently explored area Bigfoot Valley, adjacent to Bigfoot Ridge. Other redwoods there were named Cryptid and The Beast. The size of the fallen giant in the 2nd image shows it's a valley of giants. The fallen redwood still had needles on branches, so it was probably alive and standing within the last year or so. More samples of the area will be added this year to the page Redwoods Bigfoot Valley
  5. Carlos ... on this particular day, it was over 80 degrees F ... and that was probably fairly appropriate and likely for someone out of Arcata (college town) to the south. But check out my page on this tree and check out the outfit taken on the reverse side of the tree ... Fusion Giant. 2008 2nd Largest Coast Redwood. Sequoia sempervirens. A bit more out of the ordinary.
  6. Also from this last week, a large Coast Redwood in Redwood National Park. Covered both high and low elevation with miles and miles of hiking and bushwhacking.
  7. For those who will not visit in April or May, here's one stretch of Bald Hills overlooking Redwood National Park
  8. Thought someone said that's house. I coupied the image and enlarged its crappy quality ... but it looks like there's more distance above the doors to the top of the wall than a typical house of that shape. If the top of the roof is actually like 7 meters high, maybe that tree is 75 feet or more. Single level homes often have barely 1/2 a meter above the door to the gutter visually looking from the street .. the kind with 8 ft. ceilings. The building below looks to have over a meter above the door. ... IF THOSE ARE DOORWAYS that is ...
  9. That would be my estimate too, especially since the tree is in front of the building. 45 ft. to 55 ft. ...
  10. Timely post ... I just posted this image in the Visiting the Redwoods thread I've been feeding pics to the past year > VISITING THE REDWOODS Mushrooms are awesome ... wish they could grow all year. Oregon, may have one of the few if not only known UNDERWATER MUSHROOM. Recall an article about the Rogue River having one. Article > http://www.opb.org/news-growing-in-the-rogue/
  11. Like much of the coastal area forests, there's some good looking mushrooms to be found in Autumn. But most visitors are coming for the big trees, not autumn mushrooms. Although, some visitors do want some Bigleaf maple autumn color in October and November with the redwood photos. Avenue of the Giants in particular.
  12. Maintaining. Took my calorie intake from maybe 3500 a day, to around 1800 per day. And I identified foods I was eating that were a lot higher calories than I realized, and reduced the portions of those a lot. If I liked them, I did not totally eliminate them. Peanut butter is one example. Went from like 8 tablespoons a day to 1 tablespoon. I also found that cut tomato and cucumber was something I enjoyed daily, and could make a big bowl of for a filling snack. And popcorn in the evening was a fairly low calorie snack that lasted quite a while provided I went light on the oil popping. Ate lunch out at Panda Express once a day. Whereas 2 entree Orange Chicken and fried rice side is like 1100 calories ... I could do 2 other entrees and steamed vegetable side and bring lunch under 500 calories. Cut it under 1/2 ..
  13. Maybe you have already seen this ... think I posted it last year after losing 60 pounds. 30 x 2 lb. blocks of cheese, equal to what I lost between June and December in 2012. My "diary" on the subject, if any, is all put into that one photo.
  14. It's cool. I removed some detail from that image ... and it still seems nippy ___________________________________________ One more of the Smith River fork. Look for the patio and rails. Coast Redwood and Pine trees overlap natural range here.
  15. Maybe this one ... I bumped the blue slightly for a hint of a stone necklace around the edge of the creek.
  16. Tallman is the best over here. The top piece seems stamped, and the slight rounding allows resting on a trunk too without it gouging bark. I find every height up to 10 feet very easy to deal with. And 12, 14, 16 (ft) are for me a nuisance to handle, carrry and use. ...
  17. Networking with her almost caved-in before the first shoot, but coincidence where I crossed paths with her mom 300 miles away, merely one day after messaging first time, led to 6 shoots during the year. What strikes me as fitting is that she had worked on the trail crews in the redwood parks, so there's a real connection between the model and the forest. Drury Parkway in Prairie Creek redwoods.
  18. Easy --- Easy !! But if $2800 (US) is too much, same company makes one for about $700 or less if you look for used. Got it for exploring coast redwood forests, but also use it for dropping small trees that don't need climbing, when I want to approximate where the top will land.
  19. Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park. Sir Isaac Newton. Just ordered a 20" x 30" print sample today. Hope it comes out good enough to offer this year.
  20. I used a Canon 5D Mk II camera, and a 135mm lens to start, but switched to the Canon 85mm 1.2 lens for the Mustang photo posted earlier. Very end of day with sun almost set, and used 2 flash units off-camera. The photo was also run through a program Photomatix which lends a bit of the grungy look and exaggerated highlights, etc..
  21. Just got a confirmation that this model from near Eureka, California, would like to shoot in the redwoods next month, weather permitting. Considering some possible totally different angle that almost has a religious vibe to it.
  22. An oldie ... Andrew Joslin, illustrator for THE WILD TREES ... in Prairie Creek redwoods.
  23. Ah ... 4 more hours spent on this file, and seems I finally got a 20 x 30 size I can really enjoy and replace the 16 x 20 (inches)
  24. Saw this in the Coast Redwood forest near the Boy Scout Tree hiking trailhead. ...
  25. Maybe try visiting the website Tiny Teardrops Forum ... People share tips on living or traveling with teardrop trailers, converted cargo trailers, etc.. It's a two piece setup with a vehicle, and maybe that's not practical, but if it might be, check it out. I converted a cargo trailer for camping and it was comfortable in 3 seasons. Would have been simple to put an air conditioner on it too, except I went to the coast a lot where it is not hot in summer.
