  1. Whilst that was the interpretation the law never said that exactly.
  2. Not all of them will be. The posh end will just be cars. Some are pure commercial & DP does not affect tacho it can affect O licence. The DP is for carrying passengers & loads plus 4x4 affects it too.
  3. If you passed your BE before 19-01-2013 you have the same trailer limits as people with grandfather rights. Your second point makes no sense. The real weight of a trailer is not a licence factor so the applied load would not affect any licence condition re the trailers MLPM. It would not have any thing to do with the unladen weight for O licences as again the applied load is not a factor in the unladen weight.
  4. Er cars can need a tacho. A 4x4 is a car a landrover is a car. Once coupled up to a trailer is the combined is over 23500kg you might be in to tacho use if its for work.
  5. CE will upgrade D1 & D to D1E & DE.
  6. This has been changed too as C1E no longer upgrades D1 to D1E. quote A test pass for subcategory C1+E upgrades subcategory D1, if held, to D1+E.
  7. This from your website is wrong. quote 1, If you have taken your B (car) test after January 1997 you can tow a trailer up to 750kg as long as the total combination or train weight does not exceed 3500kg. So in short if you want to tow a large trailer weighing more than 750kg and you took you driving test after January 1997 you may need to take a DVSA B+E towing test. In 1 the GTW can be up to 4250kg. In 2 you can tow trailers over 750kg as longs as the combined MAM & MLPM is 3500kg or less.
  8. Deliver in IBC & then tip out. You could even modify a highlift jack to do the tipping.
  9. The ones we bought around 2010 used to last for 3 years of constant refilling. The ones I bought last year I did not refill at all. They were starting to degrade after one use. Going to move to IBC soon. Repeated buying of bags is a lot of extra cost.
  10. On less windy days its not a problem at all. The chips are thrown away from the operator & I dont need any extra protection.
  11. I think the only mod that would work would be an extractor which on a mobile unit is not going to work easily. You could try fitting flaps but once you get going the pile grows & the wind whips around the machine in all directions picking it up from underneath as well as the stuff as it cuts. Its like trying to stay out of the smoke at a BBQ / bonfire. Having effective helpers clear the pile often does help but even with two helpers on the last job they could not keep me fed with lengths, take away the splits & clear the pile. Mainly due to the lengths not being placed on runners so once part way into the stack moving the lengths forwards was a pain for them. Why do delivery drivers never put log runners down before unloading?
  12. Thats a good point. My current glasses are a lot thinner than when I last tried googles.
  13. The wind I was working in the other day was strong enough to blow any bits about. Chips tend to fly straight to glasses takes care of them. The dust or prob more accurately fines which you will always get is more likely to follow the smaller air currents around glasses & screens.
  14. The air circulates around a big strimmer screen so I bet it would on these too.
  15. Just ordered some ski OTG (Over the Glasses) googles. Will see how I get on.
  16. Ah I forgot about the wearing over glasses bit but if you follow the link there are other offerings of mesh safety specs that could be worn over glasses. The ones I'm thinking of have a band to go around the back of your head. I am finding that mesh still lets the dust in.
  17. I have tried motorcross goggles in a past life & they dont work well with glasses for me.
  18. I dont think you understood my issue. Its not for protection from flying chips but from the dust. Also I wear glasses so they would not fit anyway. They would be not better than the glasses I wear.
  19. Care you recommend any goggle that ft over glasses? If they cost what my glasses do then its a non starter. All the one I have tried just dont fit.
  20. What eye protection works for glasses wearers? On windy days when processing firewood I always get dust in my eyes. I have tried strimmer guards & chainsaw mesh screens but nether work as the wind blows the dust around them. Safety goggles never seem to fit over glasses effectively. I am not worried about impact from flying bits at speed as I am not in the zone the processor flings stuff, its just the wind carried crap. What do you all use?
  21. I have been looking at making a screw splitter for my digger for a while. I already have the motor. It has a mounting flange of 160mm & the motor is wider still. Dont want to spend too much as it will prob only get used for two 3 - 4 foot diameter x 20 foot long beeches. What would be the minimum diameter of screw splitter that would work? Looking at 120mm £150, 150mm £205 & 200mm £260. All of them will need an adapter making up for about £15-20 at the local agri place.
  22. Shocking attitude from them.
  23. None I can see or mentioned to me by people that have done it. You register, then you must have done your first aid for forestry (£10) before any other course then you get 75% towards the training but not test fees.

    Overloaded

Over 3m high & no sign in the cab? Excessive over hang with no rear markers?
  25. Thats interesting. I need to go check to be sure but think they must be able to do more than that to gain an IVA. Could be they think its under agri exemptions. Just had a quick look & this seems to apply. But the speeds are 60 & 40 not 45. I wonder if they have fitted 50mph max tyres?
