  1. Dont forget you still need to have them suitably trained.
  2. Drive with no insurance........
  3. Dont get me started lol. Not so much a change but a shutting down. Whats left does not support a business as they have also messed with the C1 & D1 work.
  4. We will have our bigger processing unit available again soon (currently no suitable tow vehicle).
  5. Yes but crap if your stuck in the loop needing to tow but cant.
  6. FYI The planned changes to the BE licence for the 15th Nov 2021 have been delayed. The delay is due to the Gov failing to get the House of Lords to vote at all due to no factual data or safety impact assessment & the vote in the Commons was not conclusive again due to no safety impact assessment & that the law was being changed under a temporary path yet was looking like a perm change, when in the opinion of the house a short term suspension of BE was more appropriate to achieve the same goal. This means that until it has changed you must still stick to the cat B towing limits if you do not have a BE licence already. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/new-rules-for-towing-a-trailer-or-caravan-with-a-car-from-autumn-2021?
  7. After I posted that I went back to see if it had been mentioned & spotted yours (2) & I had already mentioned it (5) too. It is an interesting problem. Could it be trailer bed flex tightening up the brake rods / cables that are over adjusted. I would fine a safe off road space & disable the brakes on the trailer & drive for enough time to get the heat. No heat its the brakes, heat & its the bearings. BUT only off road, private land with no one or thing around to hit.
  8. Sounds like a bearing issue to me.
  9. Heavy engine braking still applies the trailer brakes. Seems like you need to get this weighed. Is it tyre heat rather than brake heat?
  10. Is the driver heavy footed on the gas & brake? If you cant find a physical issue that's about all that's left. Are the brakes over adjusted? Have you tried the same load on another trailer that is the same?
  11. Watch out for all the scam sales. Just bought one but took weeks to find one that was actually real.
  12. The stats did not go that in depth to trailer type. I would guess that most for sub 750kg are wheels falling off / minor scrapes at low speeds trying to reverse & detachments at low speeds.
  13. That is in the trailer report but I cant remember the details.
  14. I think the error they were talking about was things like not hitching correctly, hitting kerbs (nearside blow out are way higher than off side) bad loading, hard braking at the start of a snake ect rather than your typical shit driver errors.
  15. Whatever trailer you use people complain its not like the one they will use. Single axle trailers tend to be much smaller/ lighter. Caravans have more overhang, flatbeds the list goes on. However the skills taught should transfer to them all IF you choose the right course. The max size is 7m but you cant expect to be trained using one. If you have a special need find a trainer that will do it for you.
  16. You should check out the campsites & caravan facebook groups. Caravanning is no longer just the domain of the elderly.
  17. When we take our own experience in isolation it twists the data. We all (well most) agree that covid is real. Yet until about 2 weeks ago I did not personally know anyone that had tested positive for it.
  18. This is my direct experience on the road also & my experience of all the crashes I have seen videos & pictures of online.
  19. 20 years out of a driving life time of around 50 years is nothing. The bulk of people towing (and driving) today are still pre 97 licence holders. The youngest would be about 41 now. The oldest I guess 100+. So 60+ years of drivers passing the test compared to the 24 years of post 97 test passes. Whilst the law changed in 97 its only been in the last 5-8 years that enforcement has really happened & that people taking the test has increased dramatically. The first big data gathering exercise re trailers was for the 2018 report. That showed without doubt that driver error & lack of training was the cause of most trailer accidents.
  20. Anecdotally yes most do seem to be in the pre 97 group. Again official stats dont record this.
  21. Because that is not what I said at all.
  22. Trailer accident stats were not collated for a long time after the 97 change. Plus its only been over the last 5 ish years that enforcement & education on BE has been promoted. What I can say is that the 2018 trailer safety study showed that driver error & lack of training was the biggest cause of trailer accidents. They were actually looking at starting the MOT for trailers but the stats did not support that change. What it did support was making the tests harder & doing more education & promotion of training & the need for the BE test. DVSA own recommendation was to increase testing & training for BE. The DVSA are refusing to show the H&S justification in their decision that it will have minimal impact on road safety. It is interesting that when you see a caravan splattered over the road it does tend to be a pre 97 licence holder. Most I see locally that are speeding are again pre 97 licence holders, Same again re being in outside lane on Mway. Over the years I have trained people that are shit scared of towing to those that have been towing illegally since 01-01-97 & think they know it all. All of them learnt something on the course,. No I dont know it all but I do know how to get the best out of people & get them to be the best that I can. My role was not just driver trainer but also life coach & phycologist. For most people coping with stress situations is a big factor. A few things you would not believe clients have told me about their driving:- I have been driving 5 years & have not been further than 10 miles from my house. I have never been on a dual carriageway. There are no roundabouts in the area I live so have never been on one before today. I only drive to & from work (so in 10 years of driving that have 30 mins of actual experience repeated many times). I cant park my car unaided. I never reverse, ever. I dont drive in towns or cities & the opposite I dont drive in the country. I sometimes honestly dont know how some actually drive themselves to meet me. Now dont get me wrong most are not that bad. However virtually all have let bad habits form & need a brush up in their general standard of driving. In fact most of the course is getting them to a basic standard of driving that car drivers should already be at all the time.
  23. I guess you missed the word MOST.
  24. So you all agree most (non arb) car drivers cant drive for toffy yet I am the bad guy? Go figure.
  25. removed after reading all the posts
