  1. epic..
  2. cracking pics mate...best time of year.
  3. yes they did mate...twice, which was nice. Apologies for skimping on the support description earlier, was on my way out. There is a 10mm threaded metal rod through the post, screwed 1/3rd way into each point on limb and then a foot into ground. To look at it, it just looks like someone has propped a post on a slab, but hidden from view it is fixed top and bottom. I'm happy with how it worked out, looks minimalist and old fashioned, with a high tech (lol) inner secret.
  4. Ah yes, the supports. The turf is removed and small slab placed in recess so level with grass...10mm hole through middle of post down through middle of slab and a foot into the ground.
  5. thanks..the span of the tree is very important, we haven't taken any weight out of the lower limb at all and the original size and shape of crown has been kept...what you see now is how nature intended it, obviously we have taken some weight out of certain limbs but keeping the overall size and shape was rule 1. Someone years ago fitted the cable but it has outgrown that method now, the supports are perfect for the job.
  6. Looked after this tree for the last 6yrs. When we first went to this customer it was very poorly and they were worried they would lose it. In the time that has since passed it's been fed, aerated, load reduction and deadwooded three times. Today we were to reduce some of the weight on some scarred limbs towards the surrounding properties, 3 or 4 deads to remove and support the lower limb taking the strain off the old cables that have been there for a long long time. The supports have now created just enough slack in the cable, and holding most, if not all of the pressure. We don't want to remove the 3 or 4 cables in the tree as they have been there for sometime, and apart from the lower one are doing a good job. A nearby arboretum have asked for permission to come and view the tree.. Thought you may like to see the result of our efforts, all comments or advice welcomed.
  7. swb...I applaud your work ethic. Do the job as efficiently as possible, you've got style. These little chippers look very useful indeed.
  8. thats my warm down.
  9. alot more aesthetically pleasing actually.. No, you are right..the older model is a great buy. We had ours for 5yrs and worked the hell out of it, obviously the next obvious step was a newer one. I think we paid about the same for our older model all those years ago with 60k on the clock as we did for this one with 30k on it. Less than a grand in it anyway. There is more to it than just looks though, everything is just better. The cup holders will now accomodate much larger cups..
  10. we've had both and I would recomend the mark 6 transit (2000-2006) over the previous model. It has all the same positive points such as reliability and useability, plus it is alot nicer looking. The crewcab space is bigger, so removing the seats and making a strongbox is alot easier.
  11. looking for regular supplier mate really. Thanks for the offer though..
  12. message sent, thanks mate. Just the 1 in south london then...you must be minted.
  13. I have a friend who lives in South London, Dulwich/Brixton area (sw2) and is about to have his shiny new log burner fitted any day now, can any of you lads who can deliver firewood to this area please let me know your contact details and prices. Thanks in advance.
  14. turns out is is honey fungus, being taken down tomorrow.
  15. fine thanks, how are you..??

  16. cheers guys...34yrs young, still feel 18 tbh.
  17. rupes beech "conker" pic has a chance of this... my contribution. Just love the view really....
  18. the things we do for money eh..?
  19. especially in the late 1700's, no 360's in them days:001_tongue:
  20. will get some pictures of the views across the tree's in question tomorrow.
  21. This is Croome Court, designed by Lancelot 'Capability' Brown. What a place..! The man made river and walled gardens are something else. We were performing some funky reductions on some poplars, basically to restore the view from the Panorama Tower Folly and the Pirton Castle folly. Many miles apart but you can see across the landscape from one folly to another and also the park seat folly by the main house, at any one folly you could see across to the other 2, albeit for 3 annoying poplars situated on the edge of the lake...until today. Was a bit of a ballache having the boss drive round from one view point to the other and communicating via mobile phone, but it worked out ok...from the panorama tower you can't tell they have even been reduced, and the view has been restored...happy days.
  22. no. Happily the customer didn't see the tree until finished and was over the moon, sometimes you get them waiting and watching and moving the goalposts, little bit more here...little bit more there, etc...you know what I mean. There wasn't...
  23. Topped..(), raised and thinned a silver birch in this mornings heat..turned out well so I thought I'd share...a very lot came off it.

    oopsie...

    thats the fella...
  25. Andy R

    oopsie...

bottom end of the lake, furthest from the main house...access from a few different places but I'd go in from the main road to avoid looking too suspicious..I'm sure they don;t want too many spectators...lol
