  1. I thought cauliflowers were notoriously hard to grow so you must be doing something right.
  2. It seems to me that the problem here is a bent government whose top members, (operative word!), take every single opportunity to pursue their own nefarious ends. Not Covid per se. If it wasn't for a global pandemic then it would be other situations that they would be exploiting. Here's a couple of salient points from the cited article. ""Neither the British Medical Association nor the Royal College of GPs have endorsed this process. "" - the people that actually have to deal with the consequences of this virus. ""In fact, this approach is really now so endemic in Boris Johnson’s government that it must be regarded as the official playbook: withholding vital information from the public, transparency-free procurement, secretive contracts, a pathological aversion to any kind of scrutiny – then telling anyone that finds out about it that it’s in their best interests and that they absolutely refuse to apologise for that. After the past 14 months, it would take a very big database indeed to store all the things for which the government absolutely refuses to apologise."" - sounds horribly familiar doesn't it?
  3. That would be a slow news day for sure, it's an hourly occurance most days. What actually is big news though is that poor wee Andy feels really upset because a few more than just a couple of folk have called him out for what he is.
  4. I must be missing something. Where was all the acerbic content? I didn't see a single instance of acerbic content, let alone a post full of it. Unless you're talking about the use of the word Troll, but that's hardly unwarranted, considering the individual being discussed; our best friend Tiny Tigger. Have you ever actually read any of his posts? They make the one you're getting a bit pissy about seem like a glowing endorsement! The concepts of acknowledgment and acceptance of others differences are alien concepts to him. Just my personal interpretation.
  5. People have used many applicable words to describe him, non of them complimentary. A complete and utter lack of respect for anyone but himself is as good a summary as any. Obviously vengeful as well. He's either an under-rock dweller of the highest order or indeed a sociopath. Either way I don't believe he is welcome, liked or even respected by the vast majority of decent Arbtalk users.
  6. What a delicious irony. Serves the stupid hypocrite right if he can't now get enough EU staff for his pubs after he helped to get them all kicked out. Good beer and cider though! It's also a rare treat to actually be able to talk in a civilised manner to your friends, without having to shout above overly loud music in the background. I was listening to a report this morning about the troubles being faced by the hospitality sector, pubs in particular, due to the post-Brexit labour shortage. It is a real phenomenon.
  7. Like all good ciders. Deceptively strong and very drinkable. I made a batch once that was barely distinguishable from apple juice, yet after a couple of pints you were almost legless, literally! Old Rosie is very good by the way.
  8. Since they joined I've learnt to have a bucket full of salt at hand every time I open Arbtalk. Slugs and other under-rock dwellers don't like salt.
  9. Sadly that halcyon time is at an end. The main protagonist is back and I'm sure his angry little hanger on is waiting in the wings, hanging on his every word.
  10. This could go in the "Show us ya birds" thread, but I want to put in a good word for Tits, (the feathered kind!). We get loads in our garden. Probably because we feed them well and also got some currently nesting in a box. I often see them hopping around on trees and shrubs. I think they're picking off insects, probably aphids and caterpillars mainly, so they must be really good natural pest controllers.
  11. How does that work, what kind of cotton? I've never had problems with sparrows, don't want them by the sounds of it! We get them but not seen them on the beans.
  12. I thought the spikes were for protection ..............
  13. Are they sweetcorn in that first photo Gary? I'm growing some this year for the first time. I've not planted them out yet due to crap weather. I've only got six plants, I hope that's enough. Since they're wind pollinated I was originally going to plant a block of nine, but three didn't make it. Got any tips for sweetcorn growing?
  14. Good beer that, Blandford Fly! The Blandford Fly | Badger Beers WWW.BADGERBEERS.COM Got a touch of ginger in it as that was reputed to ward off the flies.
  15. Reckon they'll be ok. As crap as this weather is we must have seen the last of the frosts now. On the other hand they may get flooded or blown out of the ground!
  16. Nice job there. Well done with that.
  17. That was years ago too, back on 2012. They know their onions, the French!
  18. It would help if I could get the word right! Unable to correct the typo, I meant to say Silvopasture.
  19. ‘I’m seen as the fool’: the farmers putting trees back into the UK’s fields | Trees and forests | The Guardian WWW.THEGUARDIAN.COM It’s hoped a 12-year trial in Devon will persuade policymakers to back silvopasture to benefit the soil, livestock and climate It'll be interesting to see how this pans out. Got to be better for the land than the current crappy grass monoculture system. A big problem will obviously be grey squirrel damage, they'll have to stay on top of that.
  20. The interesting thing is the comments from people after that Twitter video. Their observations of things that were better about life back then in 1967. For instance:- People talking to each other due to no mobile phones, No fast food rubbish everywhere No obese people No food grazing
  21. So this must be a tribal thing as well; being overly concerned about which end of the pond you inhabit. Most of us have evolved beyond pond life now chap, so don't need to concern ourselves with which end we and others are in.
  22. Not really my little mate, there doesn't seem to be a prevailing wind in here at present, just a load of old guff from all directions as normal. And as if to illustrate the point, look who should pipe up with this little malodorous little gust?!
  23. Thanks for the lesson on isms and ists! It's all a bit us and them though isn't it? There's actually a lot more to life than being part of a tribe. You should try to experience the world outside the pond, and away from the keyboard, now and again. Being in a herd isn't necessary.
