  1. And now for some good news. Jaguar Land Rover-owner to build UK battery factory in Somerset WWW.BBC.CO.UK Jaguar Land Rover-owner, Tata, is going ahead with plans for a multi-billion-pound factory in Somerset.
  2. Europe heatwaves: Wildfires rage in Greece as temperatures soar WWW.BBC.CO.UK Specialist firefighting planes are being sent to Greece to help tackle fires amid the extreme heat.
  3. Yeah, that was my first thought.
  4. I've just seen a Magpie attacking a Blackbird, it was pretty brutal. It was part of a gang of three, the other two were standing around close by. Vicious thugs. There were also a couple of other blackbirds at the scene, doing a lot of shouting but not much else. The blackbird survived, but looks badly wounded, some kind of wing damage. I intervened so that probably saved it, though it's probably doomed anyway now. It looks like a juvenile but fully grown female. So too big for the magpies to eat so I'm wondering what the motivation was.
  5. We had one of them last week, tucking into the sunflower hearts. Not as vibrantly yellow as that though.
  6. I was thinking Fungus Gnats (sciarid flies) as well, given that you mentioned lots of house plants. We get them sometimes, especially when there's lots of vegetable seedlings on window sills and also around the compost caddy in warm weather. They're not harmful in any way, just an annoyance really. https://www.rhs.org.uk/biodiversity/fungus-gnats
  7. Good Gooseberries this year. This is the second bowl like this so far, probably another half left on the bush. It's only a medium sized plant too, they're heavy croppers when they get going.
  8. I'm not quite sure what immigration or xenophobia have got to do with paying somebody in cash but since this derail has started already. I don't think the problems have got much to do with skin colour at all, more just another now dysfunctional system. It recently took us over an hour to get through border control, and that was at BHX, a relatively small regional small airport, at 2 o'clock in the morning. It used to take 20 minutes at most.
  9. Cash less car parking is my particular favourite. Who wants to piss around on their phone downloading some or other App, (that might then take 5 minutes to set up), rather than just putting a quid or two in the machine and then going on about their business? Not me for one. It's the elderly that I feel sorry for in such situations. Many don't own a Smart Phone, let alone understand what an App is or how to download one. Progress eh?
  10. I reckon it all comes back to the old cliche of "Work/Life Balance". A very good point was made a page or two back, words to the effect that;- if you've enough money for everything you need, and most things you want, and you're fulfilled in what you do then that's enough. No point in killing yourself by working as many hours as you can, or sacrificing family time by taking jobs miles from home.
  11. Aspartame advice unchanged despite cancer question WWW.BBC.CO.UK The sweetener is found in a variety of foods, from diet drinks to chewing gum and some yoghurts.
  12. Mice chewing ropes and stuff must be one of the most infuriating things. I had a brand new whoopie sling chewed once, they got through a good few strands of it.
  13. It's not just the brain, it damages lots of different organs, and causes all sorts of cancers. Aspartame makes a star appearances in this, about 6 minutes in;- BBC iPlayer - Panorama - Ultra-Processed Food: A Recipe for Ill Health? WWW.BBC.CO.UK Investigating a link between chemicals in ultra-processed foods and cancer and diabetes.
  14. Grey Squirrels are bad news, whichever way you look at it. Only good for one thing I reckon - eating. 🍴🍗
  15. I don't think anyone quite knows the extent of the damage yet, needless to say it'll be huge though. Since they have permeated the whole world now, it's impossible to avoid microplastics. At least with crappy "food" you can choose whether or not to eat it.
  16. Aspartame is just the tip of the iceberg; look what's starting to emerge about Utra-Processed Food. If it ain't natural don't put it in ya gob!
  17. It doesn't even taste very nice
  18. They're just little Bstrds! Though I think a lot of the senseless chewing is down to teeth sharpening.
  19. Go on then, since you've twisted my arm; I'll indulge you. So what don't you understand this time? I'm sure you're very familiar with what a Narcissist is at least.
  20. Where IS that yawn reaction?

I know. The comment was tongue in cheek somewhat. 😜

You could might be able to buy the missing goods cheaper the second time around! ...... at the insolvency auctions, if you can find them.
  23. Exactly. Almost anything is worth a shot at the moment. I can't see the massive assemblies of 6000 people minimum happening in person but that could happen easily enough online/remotely, (security or fraud issues aside obvs).
  24. We'd do well to follow the example set by the Ancient Greeks, of how to keep narcissists like Boris Johnson and Donald Trump out of positions of power. How the ancient Greeks kept ruthless narcissists from capturing their democracy – and what modern politics could learn from them THECONVERSATION.COM Those who seek power for the sake of power are less attracted to high office when more people get a say.
