  1. Waht else was available from "Deal" recently? I remember someone saying it down the road from them?
  2. Cheers. New years resolution was "more mountains" so hopefully more mountain lunges soon!
  3. ha. Lol! Never thought of daisy as beign camp? But then he his a he and he's called daisy so yes I can't argue that one! He's secure with his campness though, its all good!
  4. Ok. But the logs are a bit gay! I use this trailer and then the quad pulls it and collects logs. I have a P6e too which I really like but its too small to be seen out with!
  5. The quad is cool. I was using one of those yesterday, much better than my old (but original) Big red 1987!!! What do you transport all that around with? I use my ifor williams trailer to move the quad and then just put the trailer on the quad and use that for forwarding the logs etc. Much bigger capacity than your (slightly gay) log trailer.
  6. Thats not cut throat, its healthy competition! Hiring out machinery is not a new idea I have been thinking of hiring one this year sometime. If I ever bought one it would be put up for hire when not in use.
  7. I got the impression he means its available between april to october at 250 per week. Not that he want to hire it someobody for that whole time!!
  8. My 10+ year old 044 seems to have more power than my new 460?? Can that be right? Its been retired for a while but I've started usign it again in preference to the 460. Same size bars on each.
  9. How water tight is a cancellation clause? The customer must surely retain the right to cancel for many reasons. I'm not sayign its right, just that customers have rights. I can order a new phone, or a mortgage or many other things and I retain the right to cancel. Gettign someone else to do the job is low, but maybe your just not sure about the company you chose and they were jsut the best of a bad lot, then someoen better come along, maybe recomended by a friend at the last minute and you (the customer) decide to go and use them instead for whatever reason. I think the customer will always have that right. Money up front for the app. which is non refundable would be the only way, but if one company askes that and another doesn't the customer will possibly just go for the one that seems to be more trusting.
  10. I asked for some slack in the rope and they thought I wanted some smack and some dope!!
  11. I let him know if I'm going to do a much larger or smaller bit than before, that about all. And wind up if necessary and let it run, but that all done with hand signals anyway. We don't run the chipper while lowering though (maybe occaisionally) and that helps, so if I need to say something there is no need for shouting. I like a peaceful work site and customers (and neighbours) don't want a load of yelling going on.
  12. I think experiences poeple probably could work together straight away, might need a bit of time to get used to things. My ground is exceptionally good though and he know waht I'm doing well before I do! In fact I never really know what I'm doing until I've done it. I hardly talk to him at all now. It all works really well.
  13. You might have the "app" in your hand but you don't own it. It belongs to the tree really! Once the permision is granted anyone can do the work. We all charge for applications, even if its included in the job it still not free. Tellign the customer its free is better IMO than telling them there is an additional charge. So if I've got 500 in my head and they say "will you do the app" I say yes of course, quote them 520 and say the app is free. If they say they'll do the app then you could give them a dicount. Always make them think they are winning. Then the 5% deposit is not a charge for the app. its just a deposit for the job before doing the app (for free!!) which comes off the final bill. Of course you are charging them a fixed amount or 5% for apps but just don't tell them. We are salesmen at the end of the day, you need to read each customer and make decisions based on that. Thats why I hate given a price in the spot, I'd rather go home and weigh up the job and customer before commiting. It usually ends up cheaper when I do that though!!!!!!
  14. They might not show the agent in the cases masterh looked at? Many people put in planning themselves before contracting a tree comapany for the work. Anyway, even if they did show an agent it means nothing. The permission is for the tree not the tree company, and its up to the tree company to try and get the work or keep it if they have already quoted. I still can't imagine any contract with the client would be binding before any work took place. They could always decide to go elsewhere for any reason. The only thing I can think of would be a 5% deposit on the work before the application is made. This would only be refundable if the application is turned down. If they then go elsewhere then at least you got your 5%. (a minimum amount would be good too). Might work?
  15. I think there is a good balance on this site. Plenty of information form yourself and others regarding fungi and diseases and structural strengths and weaknesses. This site cater for all thigns in its many areas of. I don't contribute much in those areas cos I know very little about it, but the information is there should I wish to learn more.
  16. You can't say that! Its not very PC!
  17. Is that lovely northern Irish lady coming too?
  18. There must be space for a workbench/vice somewhere on that chipper or truck??
  19. No, I don't think I can do that. They do their jobs and I do mine. Just enjoy the photos and videos from the rigging aspect as that is what they are intended for, and thats why they are in the rigging section. If I have concerns over tree health or TO decisions I'll post pictures and raise questions in the appropriate areas.
  20. I'm only stating my understanding of it. The chipper isn't getting the job done, its only processign the debris. I think that is different to the intentions of the statement that refers to highway hedgetrimming by tractor usign red diesel? Maintenace of hedges and trees along a highway is part of agricultural work, you can't include tree surgery at mrs miggins' house just because its next to a road, thats not the same thing. Of course you can run your mog on red because for whatever reason you want, and I'm not sayign you can't, I'm just statign my understanding of the initial posting as it was intended by the pen pusher who wrote it (not the poster, the Customs penpusher)
  21. Yep "Apparently" the lean had increased recently. . I don't know if it had or not. I was only referring to what I had been told. Don't forget that I have no involvment in decision making, or diagnosis etc. its not my field. I was never asked for my opinion so I never gave it. Too many opinions in this industry as it is sometimes.
  22. cutting hedges or trees bordering public roads or bordering verges which border public roads. It seems clear to me that this means when the vehicle in question is cutting trees or hedges, i.e. a tractor with a hedgeflail driving on the highway cuttign hedges that border said highway is fine using red diesel. It does not mean that jonny tree surgeon can use a mog to clear up the debris from tree work done by chainsaws just because the trees happen to be alongside a highwway. In that instance the mog is not doign the work, its merely taking away the debris, which as I understand it, is goods so red is not allowed.
  23. What recent movement would that be??
  24. I've noticed more effect from this in the past on trees that we have thinned or removed limbs from. The next strong bout of wind can rip them to pieces where one limb may have previously protected the next in line. Same with Cedars and snow! One limb eventually fails after excessive snow and the following year the next limb gets the snow when it had never done so before and doesn't stand a chance and so on till no Cedar tree left. Anyway, the owner of the nextdoor beech tree is doing the right thing and having an independant survey, which I'm sure will take into account the removal of this one.
  25. Hi. I don't think that one was taken into consideration when permission was granted. It is in neighbouring property and is going to be surveyed soon, may have already been done. Neither tree protects the other from the prevailing wind as it comes side on to both, and I would have been more concerned about removal of that tree in leaving the one we just felled TBH.
