  1. Why have you got your PL when you've only been working for 3 months and you are clearly employed by an estate?? Who's the "we" in "We have plenty more thinning to do later in the year" No insurance is ever goign to pay up for anything in that scenario, no matter what size trees your felling.
  2. If there were a law then every tree on a boundary would have to be topped! Just get it thinned out, a let the light through, or fell it. Don't go and create future works just for a short term extra bit of light. What species? If its decidous then you'll get plenty light in the winter when you really need it and in the summer just go out side.
  3. Nope.
  4. Are you saying the old ones are better than the four mix? Interesting, time will tell. We still use the old one now and then and its definatly reliable, I like the power and torque you get with the four mix one though. I'm hedge trimming all this week on my annual Yew trim job, and all machines will be working at once. I use the four mix for the tops, its awesome.
  5. Its a good tool. I've got the same but the KM85R engine unit is only used occasionally now, I got the fourmix one last year.
  6. The KM85R is a 2007 model, 395 plus vat in the 2007 catalogue. The rest is 450 ish without vat at 2007 prices, so quite a bit more now. If he was vat registered and got a trade discount of 20% when he bought it then he's doing well to sell it at 500 now, but you would be getting a bargain too though I think.
  7. Ok, I see what you mean. In a way then your SS RA is a generic one, if it covers all usual points.
  8. How can yhou do a site specific RA everyday without having a generic? The site specific one should only highlight specific requirements for that site that are not in the generic, one, or at least it shoudl refer to a generic in order ot cover the principal risk elemetns of the work. Otherwise you would have to RA tree climbing/chainsaw use etc etc. every day?
  9. Exactly what I was going to say. If you've been asked for them then you need them. "Law" has nothing to do with it.
  10. Ha ha!! Thats exactly what we were thinking!! "Better be careful or else it will look like the Gohstbusters car!!"
  11. Yes, I'll try the old one for a while. Its quite knackered (got damaged when my other subaru got ram raided in to the porn shop!) I've got my mind set on two underbody storage boxes off ebay next, the guy can make them to order so thats the next thing, then just the wheel spinners and I'm done!
  12. I looked at making something myself but its not worth it IMO. What do you think about roof boxes on it? Too much??
  13. Yes, here you go. Roofrack - 4 BAR ROOF RACK You can get the rack in any various sides so best to phone them, but there is no point getting fittings for an LDV when you have a custom chip truck so they advised me that the renault master fittings would be best.
  14. I was going to PM you actually, the roof rack would be perfect for your truck. It has the fittings for a renault master van, cos they bolt through the roof, so a bit of modding and it worked a treat on mine. £229 +vat.
  15. I want to put my old roof box on it, so we can carry a full set of roll up signs but I think it might be too tall. Maybe another roofrack on the cab and tool box and put the roof box there? Its lost is amazing aerodynamics now though!!
  16. Got the roof rack on yesterday. Looks a bit odd but I wanted a proper one rather than just stick the ladders straight on the roof. Roller at the back is good too.

Yes, well done Jo!! Great job. And as for Mark C, well thats quite impressive, every masters for the last how ever many years but no win for a while, to still have to qualify every year and then get the win at last! Good job. I'd like to see the prelim scores to see where Jon and Beddes were, I bet it was close.

I understand that the ITCC has been delayed, rain and flooding in Chicago yesterday so the whole thing postponed till today. Results won't be in till late tonight, if they get it all done today.
  22. Cheaper to put a subaru engine in, maybe not quite as fast as a porche but not far off, considering the aero dynamics! There an newish '02 reg one near me I'll take a photo. They cost a few quid though!
  23. More than happy to tell you what I can. I'm not a surveyor so I just carry out the work as requested. There is some decay in the main stem of the tree in the foreground. the whole area is open to the pubic in the summer, one path is just to the left of the trees, but people can walk wherever they want, and it is used for picnics. We moved the tables before we started work. So the surveyor recomended reduction and thats what we did. Sorry if I sounded rude, but if your not sure just ask.
  24. Does reducing trees of this size and age as a general rule, improve their safety in this sort of environment No. As a general rule healthy trees should be left as is, IMO. Would I be right in thinking that you reduced the trees to prolong their life in that setting, rather than purely for safety reasons? No, its purely for safety reasons, because of the picnic area and footpaths, and because of the decay in the front of the two trees.
  25. What do you think the location is then? How close is the nearest public footpath and how many people have picnics in that area every day?
