  1. Apart from your jugular? A 230v street light line (live) that was completely buried by Ivy. Hit with saw and hedge trimmer. Of the lesser items; metal waratahs, buried in the middle of trees along with glass bottles. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  2. https://www.trademe.co.nz/1276472335 Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  3. Worked with plenty of female arbies and count a couple as good friends. The ones I worked with made up for their smaller stature with more finesse and by using their brains more on the job. Less machoism if you like. And, they can climb and climb very well. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  4. What's the latest tree pollarding equipment? Man, that was a hard read. Maybe be less is more! Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  5. Maybe not positive but honest and, probably symptomatic of most sufferers. Worth trying new meds? There's been some improvements in the last few years I believe. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  6. Unfortunately I know of people who insist on (and get) antibiotics for colds, etc. then they save them and take one when they have a pimple. It annoys the daylights out of me. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  7. In NZ you have to see you're GP first for a referral anyway. After becoming near suicidal on the first meds I knew something was wrong, went back to my own GP and told him I needed help. He checked my meds, records, asked about symptoms etc and referred me immediately. Saw someone at the mental health department within 2-3 weeks. I just don't agree with docs pushing anti depressants (or antibiotics for that matter). I'd prefer, if there is a real issue, the person is referred. I get handed back over to my GP shortly but have my psychologist's number and I can contact her as I need. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  8. In hindsight I agree with your first statement. Half the battle anyway is talking to someone who actually understands what's going on, that being the specialist. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  9. I see both sides of this. I was misdiagnosed with Bipolar and given lithium for it. The meds had a devastating effect on me, put me into a deeply depressive state and at times, a suicidal one. I recognised that something wasn't right and went back to a different doctor who referred me on to a shrink. He figured that I wasn't actually bipolar and weaned me off the lithium and replaced it with a high dose of sertraline. At first I was taking it at night but had issues with sleep disturbance etc. switched to taking it in the morning, a referral to a psychologist, a course of vitamin B12 injections and folic acid and the turn around is evident. More self confident, less anxiety, less stress. Obviously there are side effects and I would always recommend talking to a specialist before taking and SRI, SSRI or anti depressants prescribed by the GP. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  10. Sounded like mumbo jumbo to me too but the more I spoke with professionals the more it made sense. There's another thing worth Googling too and that's the Amygdala hijack. For those that suffer anxiety attacks etc. it's worth understanding why and how you can possibly combat it with meditation etc. if you can actually master it. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  11. Be aware that a lot of places are on tank water once you're out of the towns and cities. Nothing wrong with that but you just have to be aware how much water you use. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  12. I've been thinking about trying this mindfulness thing. Seems to be another variation on meditation. Some really useful tips coming through this thread. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  13. Also Vitamin B injections. Definitely worth getting some blood work done to see if you're lacking in anything. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  14. Water and sewerage should be part of your council rates but generally, if you're renting, this should either be covered in your rent or by the landlord. Rates are sent to the property owner not the tenant. Just check the fine print on any tenancy agreement. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  15. I found talking to a psychologist, someone who is none judgemental and can help you work through issues was a massive help. I have some close friends and a very loving and patient wife who I couldn't talk to and I bottled it all up until I snapped. Now, I tend to not over think things, tell people my issues as they arise and am much more open with er indoors. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  16. I have borderline personality disorder which manifests in anxiety attacks, mood swings, anger and depression. Just finished several sessions with a psychiatrist and also a psychologist after a very bad year. Personally, the professional help and meds are the only thing that pulled me around. 17. Depending on who you work for; Asplundh and Treescape both have an agreement with immigration that allows them to get around most of the requirements for a work visa due to the skills shortage. Maybe some other companies too. You can cross credit your qualifications you currently have against a NZ recognised qualification. You may have to do some extra credits you may not. The more experience the better but, as I say to everyone else that asks about work in NZ; check on http://www.trademe.co.nz or seek. Heaps of jobs on there for arborists and most will outline exactly what qualifications, experience etc. they require. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  18. Two main places for kit are Levin saw makers and Treetools. There's a couple of others but Rich at Treetools is awesome. Stuff is expensive here so if you have gear you can bring without breaking your weight limits I'd do it. Check out Treetools before you decide and at least you'll get an idea of prices. With regard to rentals; trademe also has a good rental selection but make sure you do your homework. Might pay to get something short term until you can figure out neighbourhoods and exactly where you want to be. Might find the Hamilton or Otorahanga is easier to find rentals and commute instead. 19. If there's money for a MEWP on it then do that if it minimises the risk. Just because it didn't fall in the winds doesn't mean it hasn't been weakened sufficiently to fail at any given moment. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  20. So, we didn't manage to find anyone suitable out of the first round of interviews so the job will be advertised again. Money isn't up with some of the other tree specific companies but we have good gear and a variety of work with beautiful scenery and cheapish housing. Who's keen? Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  21. Camelback is a good idea for weather like we've been having recently. Late summer it seems as it's kicking in nigh on Autumn. It could be worse, you could be on Suckland, I mean Auckland where it's way more sticky. I'm lucky as I work around and drive home along the shores of lake Taupo. By the way, there's still a job going with us. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  22. Stinking hot (around 28C) and muggy here. Makes a nice change from the rain and wind but could do without the humidity. Cicadas at full chat at the moment. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  23. TeAwamutu isn't too bad. Waikato district. Not much going on there but not the worst place in the world. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  24. Silky nantanoko. Clips into the scabbard and doesn't come out. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
