  1. Its like asking what the perfect chainsaw is, there aint one cos you need 3 different ones to do every job.. You have to decide what your priorities are- is it portability/size of cut/log handling/efficiency/accruracy/set up time???????? What will be the bulk of your milling ? Personally i use a Woodmizer (LT70 now) i have owned the 25,30 and 40 Woodmizers are very accurate if they are set up correctly. If the heads arent set up or the blades are not sharp then there are issues. 90% of cutting/accruacy problems are blade related. I have not used other mills, but i have looked into them, and for my application the woodmizer is the best. If i have to do big wood then i use a logosol and 880 to break it down. To choose the right mill you need to narrow down your appliction. By the sounds of it you dont want a particularly mobile one if you want to be under cover on wet days, and probably one with one handed operation ()
  2. some here AC Price Engineering - secondhand equipment
  3. Hi I have a Woodmizer LT30 for sale, fully hydrualic PM me for detaisl if interested Stan
  4. just done some hand cleft oak ones on a summer house. We pre drilled these and put them on with stainless screws. What huck said is right about blunting the nail tho. We fastened them in the middle not the top. Its hard to expain but i didnt get any photos sorry
  5. They are about.. Classifieds - HZJ75 Pickup Forsale • Land Cruiser Club and Forum I have just sold my FJ40 that i bought in Germany. 4.2 straight 6 petrol and would go anywhere. There are a few clubs like the one above. You can get most models in Germany including new 79s. You can get them in aus second hand and get them back here pretty easy so long as its over 10 years old. I seriously considered bringing some over and selling them on..but they are more expensive than hi luxs and landrovers (but for a reason)
  6. Are you going to crane feed the chipper ? If so then get a Heizohack. Crane feeding a disc chipper is ok but once the blades are dull it doesnt do so well. The heizo will keep on going. Blade resharp on 3 big blades is very expensive compared to the cost of the little blades in a heizo. Heizo is good on brash with a hyd ram on the top roller-AC Price do this.

    Unimog

A foresrty spec unimog is a capable and worthy contender for forestry, so is a forestry spec tractor. Thats the thing tho, a mog that isnt set up right for forestry will be average, so will a tractor thats not set up.. The thing with them all is not trying to do too many things with one machine. You shouldnt be in the woods with a chip box on, you woudlnt be in the woods with a plough on your tractor. Theres pros and cons to them all and there are those that hate em and those that love em. You can only work it out by going out and seeing them working..
  8. I could pick it up for you for £ 40
  9. I saw stacks being watered in france next to a pulp factory, so i assumed (and i may be wrong)that it was as a fire deterant, it was bloody hot there and imagine a small forest fire getting that lot going..
  10. I can get you some.. how many ? Stan
  11. Well on a more serious note.. the forces on the drawbar at the point where you are raising it are considerable. As Chris says you will need to plate it if just stacking box up. Alex made a 'swan' neck, but at a price... i will get a photo... Dont make the hitch swivel as the rockinger is designed to do that. I got a trailer done years ago for a rockinger and the hitch swivelled as well, got interesting at a round about as both had moved and it was in effect a solid piece.. Good luck
  12. I have been tasked with removing a large Fir (4-5ft diameter). Someone else has felled it, and i am to remove it.. There is way more than i need so if anyone wants any.. I will have a telehandler on site to load, so all you need to do is get to site on the day with a trailer or truck. Its located near Newby Bridge, South Cumbria Get in touch if you want any Stan

I think a U1200+tp200 chipper is a very good set up; 3 seat cab, same size pretty much as a 900, better gearbox, turbo, good capacity for chip, enough power for chipper. I ran one for a few years then stevie got it.I then went bigger and so did stevie and thats a whole different story. But to compare to a landy you have a much more capable machine- its the little details like when you go and tip yourchip youve got to drop your chipper off, tip, put it back on, with the mog you just rock up and tip sideways, done. You're not towing, so offroad its better, with V treads youll travel better. On the road its got good maners, and speedwise if you left the yard in the landy and the mog at the same time to get to site the mog would be no more than 10min behind (unless your hitting the M/way!) But they cost as others have said, so its down to what work you have AND what work getting it will Gernerate. But the biggest advantage i see is depreciation. With a mog (notincluding running costs) you will get what you have paid for it if you look after it. But i am biased as i have used them for a long time and kinda quite like them:001_cool:
  20. How do,

I have just got a new hi lux invincible and will be doing susp lift, wheels and winch bar etc. Got a quote from devon 4x4 guy called chris; 01769550900 or [email protected]

Tell him you got info fom me ? Depends on what youre after as well, as you can get cheap wheels and tyres but if youwant to 'use' it seriously then youll have tp spend more... did you get fuel problem sorted ?

  21. We used to call it the 10 o'clock bad news Now i dont have a telly, rarely listen to the radio and dont buy a paper. I am much happier, it used to kind of stress me without realising, all the doom and gloom. 99% of which didnt even have a direct affect on my life. I think a lot of the present recesion is media driven, and they will prolong it. Chuck the telly and see if your life changes
  22. Howdy, I can if you want.. PM me Stan http://www.woodmad.co.uk
