  1. My 110 is a class VII test same as the transit. Van test, van tax as a light goods vehicle.
  2. I queried this with the garage last time and apparantly vehicles over 3000kg are subject to the van test. I'm not complaining, van tax is £180.00 and as far as I am aware is not going up like car tax.
  3. Ok! Ok ! I give in ! You got me! Simply, I have a guy leaving me before this job is due to start and my younger climber is not ready for anything like this and I will be steady at it as I'm out of practice. This does not mean however that I am incapable of/don't want to do it myself. I want the job doing in a swift and efficient manner to minimise disruption on a working commercial site and my talents are probably best put to use keeping the job going on the floor and liasing with the powers that be on the site. The trees could be rigged down but it will take too long, or I could fell them all into a large yard but this will effectively shut the factory down while we clear it all up, which is not what they want.
  4. Is this definately right about tax on commercial vehicles as well as cars Pete? My landy is 3050Kg and has to have a van MOT not a car one, is your station wagon on a car test?
  5. I don't believe Woody climbs commercially these days Pete! There seems to be be plenty of experience on here and people looking for work, so trying here first before making further enquiries. I may well do the job myself yet, however, I'm not Skyhuck and so can't do everything!
  6. I need an experienced climber for 2-3 days work dismantling 5 large poplars with crane and some other bits and bobs. Must have all relevant tickets and insurance. Provisional date is first week september. East / North yorkshire border. Right money for right man.
  7. Another nail in the bloody coffin then! At least its not based on actual emmissions! Mine makes a fine cloud when its going up Garrowby hill in top!
  8. Sorry if i'm missing something here mistertee. I bet it went with a pop! Could you explain why you used a dog tooth cut on a tree which had to be winched over? Surely the winch would be straining against the dog tooth and the dog tooth holding against the winch? The dog tooth cut is for holding trees leaning towards the felling direction until you have cut through the centre wood. You winch over trees that lean away from the felling direction. I can't see why you would employ both techniques on the same tree. Nice even hinge and clearly the tree fell where you wanted it to.
  9. Looks a nice job. Bit of a schoolboy error on leaving the cards for site work though! Times money. I insist all staff carry cards at all times. Photocopies of everyones certs are in the folder in the van with copies of loler and risk assessments and method statement. Its all a PITA but yards of paperwork are the norm these days.
  10. I thought Landys were vans and didn't come under the new rules?
  11. This was across the road from where we were working this morning! Its round the corner from Phil Cooper's Viking harvester heads premises, so we wondered if they'd just nipped down the road of the industrial estate with a timberjack or something just for a test run!
  12. I have enjoyed both reading and contributing to the forum, and have learnt a few things on the way. Thanks for running it Steve, and all the best to all members.
  13. You don't have to eat them all yourself. Take them to the game dealer, get paid, let somebody else eat them.
  14. A couple are walking round the supermarket. The man sees an offer in the drinks aisle "2 crates of stella £10" I'm having some of that he says and puts some in the trolley. She says you can put that right back for a start! Don't you know moneys tight! He begrudgingly puts the beer back on the shelf. Further on in the shop she sees an offer " 2 jars of Loreal only £10 " She puts them in the trolley and he says hold on moneys tight what are you buying those for? She relies " to make me more beautiful to you!" He says.......... "What do think the bloody Stella was for?"
  15. Twin choke Weber?
  16. Well done fella.
  17. I can agree with that Dean, We used to carry first aid pouches on the harnesses but they kept catching on stuff in the trees and emptying the contents out. Its pointless fastening them up so well that they don't, as in an emergency you'd struggle to get them open. We tipped one out that had lasted the course reasonably well and everything had gone mouldy. So we stopped and went back to the old way of large wound dressings carried in trouser pocket. BTW, don't carry them in your helmet as some do, if you get hit on the head with something heavy the helmet shell can't give and your turnip takes the full blow.
  18. My old 2.5 N/A 110 was 3500kg gross as it had previously been a garage breakdown truck with a jib and winch in the back in a previous life. And you bloody knew it when it was full and you had a full 3.5 ton trailer on as well - no power steering. It was fitted with I.B.S. brakes too! Their the ones when you press the pedal you get a dreadful feeling in your guts that you can't stop and then you start sh!tting yourself! This is the only picture I have with it on as I didn't own a camera back then. An old guy took it out of his bathroom window. It was a decent straight landy, a lot better than the Hi cap I traded up to, but was just too underpowered for the work I was making it do, but I had to cut my cloth accordingly when I was starting out.
  19. Der der der der derrrr! Close encounters of the landy Kind!
  20. Despite getting soaked on Friday, I have really enjoyed myself at work this week. I have taken down a hazard beam limb on a horse chestnut in a park, dismantled a large beech and felled another, remedially pruned a large copper beech that lost a major limb, dismantled a rotten walnut, dismantled three sycamores and crown reduced another and an ash, and a few other bits and bobs of dead wood and crown lifting etc. Run of the mill week for a tree surgeon, eh? The reason I've enjoyed it so much is that I've done all the climbing to cover for my main man who is on holiday. I've not climbed a tree since last August! Usually I'm on the deck doing the muddy bit, the large fells and mewp dismantles or I'm desk bound. Its been a breath of fresh air to be up the trees again! And I'm feeling much the better for it.
  21. Re diesel. Depends who's telling (selling?) you what. I have been told that Red (gas oil) is supposedly more potent as it has sulphur in and is more explosive. Today's DERV being 'low sulphur'. Who's right?
  22. Nice work Reg!
  23. Well I'll stand up for the old 262! It has a lovely balance, not quite as nice as a 254 though. I like mine, had it 11 years, its never missed a beat, only had to change wear and tear parts that you do on any saw. Even with new rubbers though it sstiilll vvibraatess a biittttt if you are using it all day!!! But then I pick up different saws throughout the day for different jobs.
  24. No way Dean! Take the long view , these pretty little eucs and "dwarf" conifers are our bread and butter for the future!
