  1. More than likely it is the hydraulic drive belt which is worn or slack.
  2. Pricing: STEIN Phantoms RRP £220.00 vat exempt STEIN Werewolf RRP £190.00 vat exempt Made in Italy by the same company as the Phantom & Krieger boots
  3. Can they be used on the ground? As part of the RFU (see last post) there was a clause which we have to include: Performance & Limitations of Use This product has been tested in accordance with EN 17249:2004+A1:2007 for Class 1 performance (protection at linear chainsaw speeds up to 20 m/s) but under the 'Recommendation for Use' document issued by the Vertical group number CNB/P/10.155a. They are to be used for Tree Climbing Operations and Restricted use by competent, trained operators who confine them to off-ground work in trees. They are NOT FOR USE WITH HANDHELD CHAINSAWS ON THE GROUND. This is very much like the clause associated with Top Handle Chainsaws. The boots offer the same chainsaw protective elements as all other chainsaw boots, just excluding the Toe Cap.
  4. This will hopefully give you some insight into how long it takes for projects to develop and get to market. This is a brief history of the development of the WEREWOLF. In 2010 STEIN engaged in the process of designing a protective boot aimed specifically for the Climbing Arborist which offered full chainsaw protection but without the size, weight, and bulk associated with chainsaw footwear. During the design process issues with regards to the safety standard EN17249:04 arose which was originally written to cover Forestry Footwear. As a member of SATRA the UK's leading authority on Footwear Certification STEIN requested for SATRA to submit a `Recommendation for Use (RfU) sheet' to the committee of all Notified Bodies to discuss the EN Directive EN17249:04 and re-examine it to accommodate climbers. The standard required all forestry footwear to include a safety toe cap. This item alone added enormous size, weight, and bulk to the boot. On 9th June 2011 the VG10 group considered if it would be acceptable to issue an EC type-examination certificate for a chainsaw cut-resistant boot that does not include a safety toe cap, and whether such a product meets EC Directive 89/686 Annex II - 'Basic Health & Safety Requirements'. They jointly agreed, with certain restrictions particularly in relation to cut resistance properties being maintained over the toe area along with various other points to address during testing. With clarification in place by the Notified Bodies the Werewolf project proceeded. On the 19th March 2014 some 4-years after the original concept was discussed an EC Type-Examination Certificate was issued by SATRA which allows STEIN to manufacture and sell the first ever purpose built chainsaw protective Arborist Climbing Boot excluding a toecap carrying the CE Mark.

    Vat?

Published on the HM Revenue and Customs website is a document (701/23 Protective Equipment) which explains fully the situation regarding the charging of VAT on both HELMETS and SAFETY BOOTS. This document explains who should pay VAT and who is exempt along with the products which should and should not have VAT charged upon. Although some items are classified as being zero-rated this will depend on who is purchasing the products and how the products are sold. see this thread: http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/general-chat/20106-boots-vat-add-add-not.html

  16. Over the years there has been an air of confusion surrounding the Yale Machine Assisted Splice (MAX Splice) some thinking that a machine produces the splice with no human element, rope in one end out pops a splice! Yale Cordage has just released a small video to help explain how the MAX Splice is actually produced. The machine element of the process is only used to complete the bury of the splice allowing for consistency in manufacture. The power of this machine which was developed by Yale allows them to retain the Core in the eye where others will remove the core for ease. This splice is fully CE Certified to the EN1891 standard. (Warning: This is not a training video)

  19. I have attached below an extract from the instructions explaining what the LEDs mean and how the CLIP-SPARK helps you to locate your problem.
  20. The Clip-Spark is not just for checking the spark-plug it eliminates all guesswork relating to the electrical system. You may think you are getting a spark but 1 of 3 LED's will accurately indicate the condition of the ignition system; tests for Proper Voltage, High Voltage, Low Voltage, No Voltage without disconnecting wires. It can even determine any breaks or shorts within the HT lead.
  21. The tool is designed to be used hands free, when you push the lever forward it opens the clip allowing you to attach the tool to the HT lead this then puts the device into operational mode (the red LED is then lit). You leave the device clipped to the HT lead then pull the engine over. If the light remains red or flashes red this indicates a problem within the electrical system of the machine (full instructions included to the meaning of the LED indicators). If the light turns green this means all the electrics are OK indicating a problem within the fuel system i.e. carburettor problem or other fuel related issue. The main purpose of the tool is to help you simply diagnose if you have an electrical fault or a fuel related fault.
  22. Most people see Yale Cordage as the producer of some of the best Arborist Ropes on the market to date; this is a video of what other type of industries they are involved in with some intresting footage.
  23. The CLIP-SPARK engine ignition analyser is a highly accurate diagnostic sensor that uses the latest LED micro-circuit technology to trouble shoot why your petrol powered work tools will not start, even works on car engines. Quickly and safely tests engines for a proper spark LED's will accurately indicate the condition of the ignition system √Proper Voltage, √High Voltage, √Low Voltage, √No Voltage Hands Free operation, just clip on to the sparkplug wire Works on both 2 stroke and 4 stroke engines Simple and reliable eliminating all guesswork Ideal for home, workshop or professional use Patented Gripper Hook CLIP-SPARK SAFELY tests for a proper spark, shorted or fouled plugs, and open or broken spark plug wires.
