  1. I was chatting to the Makita guys at the APF, you can now get dolmar in the UK, just ask the dealer... They are exactly the same as the makitas though, just a different colour. Its a shame they have stopped making the 7901 which was an awesome saw, and ideal firewood size, runs 18-14" bar..
  2. Is there a simple way to calculate this? I was thinking of measuring each stem in a sample block and going from there. What is the chosen method of the professional forester? Its 10 acre of Sitka BTW.
  3. Anyone used this lot, I was going to send my old Lowa GTX boots in as the sole is coming away, then I saw they did Haix work boots. I have a couple of pairs of Haix boots that have good uppers but split soles. For £45 it seems worth a shot given the price of new boots... Haix Workwear Boots - Emergency Services Boot Repair
  4. If you were supplying timber I'd say 50-70/m so knock off the timber cost and go from there.
  5. I just bought one at the APF, we will be using it for all the stuff that doesn't need splitting, if it needs splitting it can go through the processor. I don't see the point in a bench for bigger stuff, might as well have a processor that splits it as well..
  6. Thought I'd revive this thread with this: The larch was totally dead but we missed it first time as there was so much lichen it looked alive..
  7. Thats £45-50p a log! If I could get that round here I'd pack the tree work in and just do logs. I get £50-60 a cube..
  8. The 70 cube was a guesstimate of the amount produced, but the tractor was also powering the crane that fed the machine...
  9. You don't need to get out to have a wee, there's a hole in the floor!
  10. I haven't given up dairy, just stayed under 100g of carbs a day. The weight fell off just the same.
  11. I have used big bandits and I have my own Heizo and I don't think you can say bandit build quality is better. The way bandits are built is simple: they take a chassis and then keep welding bits on until it chips, there is no design phase LOL. Yes they are strong and Yes they can chip, but refined that ain't. even the 6" one is about 20 foot long.. The other thing is that they have a massive HP requirement. My heizo has a 16x27" infeed and can produce 20-40 cube an hour. The bandit will so the same I'm sure but it will need about 300hp and twice the diesel. I chipped 70 cube of g30 the other day on just 55 litres of cherry, bet the bandit won't do that.
  12. From experience getting stuff up ramps is far easier pulled than pushed, standing at the top and pulling things up I reckon you can handle about 50% more weight. A short bit of ratty rope will do the trick. Want me to choose a splitter for you at the APF?
  13. Beer aside, you'd be crazy to miss the APF when virtually every make available will be on demo, and its 2 years till the next one. Tell the missus about 2 year thing, the vital need to buy the right splitter, how it will save money, (and your time, so you can spend less splitting logs and more helping her (you can deal with that later)). then come down on the saturday, there'll be space in our Yurt I reckon.
  14. To be honest Mark there's not that much that mine wouldn't split at 8 ton, but its nice knowing that the 16 ton is there when you need it. My advice: Speed is more important than power, some have such a slow ram stroke that they are painful to watch. Get a table top type one, not horizontal unless it has a good table area so you don't have to keep picking bits off the floor. the vertical ones where the logs are at floor level are crap too. Mine can be used at floor level for making billets but has a table at waist height which is miles better. Fuelwood do some nice looking dual speed portable ones, but I don't know if they have the tables. There will be loads of them at the APF, thats the place to buy, get up early, drive down on the sunday with a trailer, try them all and buy the one you like straight off the stand, you'll get a deal, and I'll buy you a beer.
  15. I take it this will be a petrol or electric jobby Mark? I have a twin power / speed pto one thats 8 or 16 ton, as log splitters go its about the best I have used really. If there is such a thing available in petrol or electric than Thats what I'd do. best of both worlds. Just get your folks down to look after the kids and come to the APF, then you can try them all out....

    254 bits?

if the bearings are knackered how about £85, I thought it might be to good to break up, but if the internals are gone I think thats ok beer money?

    254 bits?

    how knackered is it?

    254 bits?

anyone got a front handle and or clutch cover they could sell me? I had a senior moment with mine and left it in the trailer which I then loaded with the crane... Cheers:001_smile:
  20. I have stabilised at about 12 stone, which is about 1 less than when I started, I am not being super strict but just trying to stay under 100g carbs a day, which I do most days. Really need to start upping the exercise now. I have found it surprisingly easy not having crisps and toast, but I am drinking like a fish and have no intention of stopping. With 3 kids under 5 drinking is mandatory.
  21. I just bought a Meredith and Edwards unbaked, UK built and plenty strong enough. Much better than the Chinese rubbish thats out there. I paid £900
