  1. tipping trailer skip loading trailer | eBay If you had a few skips back at the yard, they could be filled at leisure and then just loaded on and delivered.... Might interest someone..
  2. They used to use it for wooden nails in timber frame buildings and the like. Seasoned hawthorn pegs knocked into pre drilled holes in green timber..
  3. This is the fundamental problem with small scale woodland work, its so hard to make it pay when its too far for big machines and the small ones don't get the job done quick enough to break even...
  4. Replaced the unit under warranty, its a £500 part, what happens is that if it is not regularly adjusted it winds itself right off the threads and self destructs. This won't happen with regular maintenance...
  5. We've had a 57plate for 6 months, did the handbrake early on, no other issues. Its a great car to drive and had 7 seats or 5 and a huge load space. I like it so much that I can see me replacing my defender with a disco commercial in a year or two...
  6. He seems to manage, just takes a bit of practice... Sent from my HTC One using Arbtalk mobile app
  7. You should come and have a look at my brother's one, german import, 6m bed twin rear and front bogey axles, no weight on drawbar tows a dream...
  8. He looked taller than I would have gone too I think, I was watching thinking "he'll fell it now" and then he'd take off another whorl of branches.. He was trying to save having to rigg it, the tree he was on is the one on the left, it was pretty close to the garage..
  9. Oops, uploaded the wrong video, This is the top coming off....
  10. Yep, top of Callander...
  11. Nice work As usual Reg, I was going to ask what you thought of the rings too...
  12. Cheers Reg. This is Andrew dropping a small top off.
  13. Thanks for the comments, It wasn't a nice one, we have done similar ones in the woods ,just cutting them off and winching but this was in a garden and so was a bit more tricky.
  14. Especially when you consider it was only 68 years old, she was over a foot thick where I topped her, and that must have been around 80 foot. I was tied in maybe 25 foot from the top of the tree on the left and had a 30 foot drop on another line when my 45m rope ran out, so they are big trees, probably around 110-120 foot. I have a short vid of Andrew felling that top off filmed from my tree, but none of what I was doing. The pictures are pretty disappointing tbh, lots are out of focus. I need to get a decent SLR.
  15. Andrew on the other trees..
  16. These are some shots of some work we were doing today, I was working on a big hung up spruce while Andrew was dismantling another 3, we had already started the job and still have more to do.. I couldn't winch the stem back because there is a small ravine behind where it would inevitably got stuck, thats assuming my winch would have moved it at all, the top of the tree would have also smashed a deer fence and a wall. I stripped almost all the brash off it whilst tied in to a neighbouring tree, working around to keep a clear escape route. The escape route was essentially a big leap into space away from the hanger followed by contact with the standing tree. I was never tied in to the hanger. In the end the tree just sat there even after I removed all the branches in contact with the other trees and felled the top off, amazingly it barely moved and inch, just coming up slightly thanks to the huge rootplate. It was 68 years old, impressive growth...
  17. Big trees those Simon, nice work..
  18. A lot of these professional thieves will have legitimate businesses. The hiab truck that stole that mill is probably on some legitimate delivery right now.....
  19. Forget it, a 4x4 won't go as far in the woods as you think, and with a trailer on the really are pathetic. My alpine will pull 3 times what a mud tyred landrover will, and it weighs the same and has only 1/3 of the power. A real tractor will do so much more, its all down to the tyres really, stick full ag tyres on your 4x4 and then you've got a chance, but you can't run it on the road then.
  20. No, I have a friend do all my stumps, easier for me and cost effective too.
  21. we always have a hank of polyprop in the truck... I can remember when my entire rigging kit was a hank of polyprop...
  22. Get 60m of 25mm polyprop from here: Mooring Ropes :: Mooring Rope :: Mooring Ropes For Sale :: Ship Mooring Ropes :: Mooring Rope Sizes :: Mooring Ropes UK :: Marine Rope Suppliers :: Sailing Ropes :: Yacht Ropes Its always handy stuff to have anyway, and cheap enough to abuse. put the rope over a branch round the back of the main stem and back down to earth, then attach both ends to the cat. The cat has the power to snap this rope, so you need to be sensible, put your cuts in and some wedges, then gently pull it over.
