  1. I'd be very wary of burning any treated timber, the old fashioned chromated copper arsenate is really not good for our health when burnt . My mother was a big fan of burning treated wood from her neighbours landscaping projects right up until the lung cancer got her ?
  2. 25N does seem low, I wonder if that is a maximum breaking load like we have with helmet chin straps or chainsaw lanyards ?
  3. One ring and a length of 63mm MDPE pipe is even better ?
  4. I'd guess that TCD is currently doing an in depth study of mud. ?
  5. Definitely worth reading the hire agreement alongside the offered insurance, I've seen machines hired in where the hire states replace old with new and full hire paid until the machine is replaced when the insurance cover they sell is for secondhand market value only !
  6. Ooh, left handed viola...... not going to be cheap!. French horn might be a good option ?
  7. Nice pics of your project car ? Turbo diesel in the chipper...... wonder if that's an Isuzu ?
  8. Under 750 kg and unbraked it will have two independent points of attachment. Over 750kg it'll have a breakaway cable to apply the brakes in the event of a primary attachment failure. Now that would be a marvel.... a system that temporarily turns off gravity when it detects a freefalling body ?
  9. I was a bit surprised to see that tele handlers have full braking now ?
  10. In order, in my view bearing in mind the intended use. Forestry helmet. It is giving a lot of protection for the money. (use of a peak less climbers helmet is not always approved on the ground) Boots. Steel toe caps will give the best protection from the saw. I suspect that some ordinary steel capped boots would give better protection than a composite capped chainsaw rated boot.... and a lot cheaper. Gloves. Chainsaw protective on the left hand only was for the days before saws had a proper front handle guard. Gloves give protection by keeping hands warm which reduces the risk of vibration damage, so just buy lots of cheap pairs so there is always a dry pair. Trousers. A good thing to have on when concentration has gone and the saw is where it should never be.
  11. At the time I was probably getting to listen to more of the world service than 4... so paid for by general taxation ?
  12. I now wish I'd kept my correspondence with the licensing bods. A mate moved in with his girlfriend when I'd moved out from mine, I rented his flat with everything left in. Radio 4 addict here, never been keen on the telly so unplugged the box from the mains and the aerial. Got the standard letter.... replied apparatus here but not in use. After several repeat letters emphasising that in their experience people always watch the box they sent in the inspector. At the time I was a bit busy establishing a new business so was out early and back late. Because I didn't feel able to take whole days off to give them a chance of catching me watching the box they embarked on applying to the courts to be able to force entry to catch me watching the box. In the end it was only my suggestion that the harassment I was receiving would interest radio 4 that they backed off. It would probably have cost me less to have bought a license to not watch telly. I'm just glad we don't need a license to have an iron as I didn't use that either ?
  13. It's all arse covering, if the consequent accidents and incidents on the surrounding roads were included in their risk assessments it wouldn't be acceptable ?
  14. Splendid thread T.V.I. ? I'm as excited opening your latest as if it were the advent calendar of my youth ??
  15. None , you can still get old fashioned gas oil for standby generators I'm told ?
  16. Wood that nice ought to be put on the wall like a painting, I'd spend a lot of time just looking at it. ?
  17. A bit relieved to find that cherry cola was another version........ thought I was going senile for a bit then ?
  18. It's worth learning hand sharpening. It's easier getting the rolling motions right on a big bit that you can see, once your muscles learn the motions it'll be natural on the small ones you're more likely to be using. It is possible to get one good enough by hand to grip in it's own hole vertically....... rare I find but worthy of a silly grin ??
  19. Asking for a price on the right hand drive conversion kit they do could be risky...... too tempting ?
  20. It didn't seem to go terribly well for Isuzu UK
  21. Got me wondering how much the rhd kit is & towing capacity ???
  22. If it wasn't such a minefield I'd be running a mini artic and be much safer on the road. I find it buttock clenching seeing builders towing 3.5 tonne plant trailers behind unladen pick ups. I tow an ifor 3017 behind my land rover hard top that is usually well loaded up and with two tonnes on the trailer stopping on hill ascents is hairy. Would quite like power brakes on it for safety but as its easier to stay legal with it in standard form that's how it'll stay. ?
  23. I've got four pairs of fell hunters from the new ones I walk in to the oldest that are used for really rough construction jobs. I really rate them, the six year old ones are proper scruffy but still water tight and Comfy. Once broken in they are nice to climb in though never going to be a tree slipper.
