What makes us climbers so special and precious we get industry ordinances, rules n regulations to increase our chances of surviving a serious accident/mistake by having a second qualified employee present? Why does that concern for survival of mistakes when performing dangerous tasks not apply to a poor groundie feedin an 1800 solo? Where does equality start and hypocrisy end mates? Jomoco

The point I'm proving's that solo operation of a WTC, whether an 18 inch capacity BC1800 Vermeer, or a 24 inch capacity 2400 Hurricane with a 300 hp Deere engine, is legal, under certain circumstances, by specially trained groundies who don't make mistakes, see? Legal in London and Londonderry! It's the trainin yu see! Jomoco

I wish it was just a misunderstanding mate, but it's not, it's industry wide sanctioned death alone on the job when feeding a WTC. I have it from the safety horse's own mouth. Peter Gerstenberger. Quote. And yes, we consider solo operation of a hand-fed chipper to be acceptable practice, dependent on some very important conditions. End quote Who replaced Bob Felix, to this industry's detriment IMO. Jomoco

It's quite obvious my hopes of the UK tree industry being less corrupt than the USA are just another pipe dream of mine. Sad really. Blame the groundie who's not about to defend himself against industry sanctioned cruel and unusually barbaric death on the job. Jomoco

This poor bloke's alive cuz of a fellow groundie, not the regs, which allow him to work solo, and die alone. Council fined after worker loses arm in wood chipper Jomoco

Doesn't help the matter if I do TQ. I'm dead serious, and would love nothin better than bein provin wrong bout the legality of solo WTC operation in the UK. As I know for a fact how this issue stinks up this whole industry in the USA. Prove me wrong mate, please? Jomoco

Yes, and my reading of it indicated nothing prohibiting solo WTC operation. It's my sincere hope and wish to be proven wrong bout this cruel and unusual discrimination of mistake prone groundies. Climber makes a mistake? Stay calm mate I'll be right up tu help yu out mate! Groundie makes a mistake? Ah, fook em! Jomoco

IMO there's an industry wide discrimination against groundies on both sides of the pond. Whereas climbers get such special attention, as an industry standard, in case they bump their precious heads. Is there a rescue rope in that tree? Is there a qualified aerial rescue climber on the jobsite in case precious gets in trouble? But groundies chippin up piles of brush solo usin a whole tree chipper? Perfectly legal mates. If he chips himself? Too bad. Had he followed proper procedures he'd be alive! It's the new method of controlling emigrant influxes apparently! Such a deal at 50 pounds a pop! Please tell me I'm wrong about this reptilian aspect of this biz in the UK. That there are ordinances and regulations saying thou shall never let groundies feed whole tree chippers solo? Jomoco
