  1. That fungus is saying, "Don't come the f@@k near me or I'll have you"
  2. They were little black flies and some green fly, the white was probably caused by them, it was proper infested. She said would her rose spray work, I said any mild insecticide would sort them. So soap flake is the best then Lee?
  3. Just been to look at a Bay Laurel Hedge to trim and I noticed the leaves were being eaten by something, there was like a white fluffy coating on the back of some of the leaves and they dropped off quite easily. There were all sorts of insects, greenfly, blackfly. So much so you had them flying all over when you went near. I have recommended she spray the hedge with a weak detergent / water mix, see if it make a difference. Did I recommend right ?
  4. I've can only make the 6th, I've got a show I'm organising on the 13th and the APF the sat after
  5. I'll come down if I can get a car full, it's only 120 mile as the crow flies PeteMc and Bob or anyone round here, do you want to go, I not even bothered about fuel, I'll stand it. Looks like the southerners need a hand with numbers
  6. Too far from Hampshire ?? Neigh, Chestnut, it's on your doorstep, where do you want it in your back garden ??
  7. Probably a good indicator Huck, the roots, you would think, being damp would rot away and decay first, but they contain some prservative chemical thingy and can stay intact well after the thin branches (I think)
  8. Here's a pic of my first mobile, how cool did I look walking around with that.
  9. Definately not, I'd of mewp'd it or felled it. Some flatten shrubs and damaged lawn is repairable from either mewp or fell. If neither was an option I'd of got PeteMcSheff in to climb it
  10. Looks more like a smooth leaved Elm (Ulmus Minor)
  11. Just got court dates through to be a witness for the prosecution. Obviously the scrotes have pleaded not guilty, the trial is set for november and is expected to last three days !! How much that is costing the tax payer I don't know. Have been asked if I need witness care. Our lass wants to be away from the main public area which is understandable. She is worried about reprisals. If the family of these scrotes are there, they should be as disgusted as any other normal person and should have dis-owned them. If you mug a ninety year old man in broad daylight, on a main road, on a sunday afternoon, you deserve double time and I couldn't give a monkeys who's there, I'll stand and give evidence and hopefully they'll do serious time for it.
  12. If you stick a pin in my house and do a radius of one mile there are thousands of houses, with enough leylandii and Hawthorn hedges to keep me going for life . Each area will have it's own maximum day rate, I started too low with my day rate and found myself with loads of work, I pushed up the day rate until the work coming in was just right. That's what we all do and the rate differs all over the country.
  13. That's ok if you are working away from home. Today I have three jobs booked in and I can see my house from all of them furthest is about 800 yards Yesterday I was a mile away but could still see my house and the second job was at the bottom of the hill 200 yards away. If a job takes 2 hours and I have to tip and change gear I charge the half day to cover that time and sometimes I can get three small jobs in for three half day prices. But it's rare I do 8 hours a day. Most days I'm dropping my groundy off at 2.30pm
  14. I was asked yesterday to cut some trees back to a boundary, the trees are 1 ft from the boundary. He has fallen out with his neighbour and wants to get even. You'll probably get a call to quote Pete, I went and had a look and told him to "grow up" if he wanted trees butchering to get at his neighbour he would have to ring a tree butcher. I wasn't prepared to do it and the the usual comment, the trees were there before you or your building
  15. Yes, there are more than three leaves left on the tree, still not enough light, plus the leaves will block his gutters and leave a mess all over. Bloody trees, whoever invented them wants shooting
  16. You work eight hour days Basic "non climbing" jobs like that are booked as half a day at £175 for me and a groundie, bring ropes into it and the rate goes up, bring lowering ropes into it and the rate goes up again. And there is such a thing as an hours work at £60 per hour, including travelling time and tipping time because you can't teleport to a job
  17. My first mobile phone was a big battery pack with a carry handle and the phone sat in a cradle ontop. Thought I was the bee's knees carrying that around £30 a month plus 50 pence per minute
  18. Hey, that tipper body is in better nick than mine
  19. I think this is another Subaru story, the suspense, anticipation. It had better be good now rupe
  20. I'd tip the chipper on it's nose, turn the revs up to full blast and fell it straight into the chipper opening, at the same time as patting my head and rubbing my tummy.
  21. An 80ft LONG hedge, not high. The hedge was 18ft ish
  22. You can tip on my chip pile for £20, it costs me nothing £120 if I had a few other little jobs to fit in with it and £175 if I didn't Look at the gorilla bucket in the forground for scale, it's a small job
  23. I don't work any more than a mile away from home. 1 hour cutting if that. Groundy should have it cleared by the time I come down, if not he's sacked, 5 minutes blowing, 2 or 3 minutes travel to tip and the rest of the day at home watching daytime tv.
