  1. In the right enviroment fine, but in a public area they need managing
  2. I am lucky in the fact that I can pick and choose ben, but non the less, I came into this game to do things right, if I am forced through lack of work to change my morals then I'll get out and start a new business doing something else, I can adapt. Perci, the public need protecting against ignorant, ill advised tree owners also. I have seen countless topped trees roadside weak unions an all. I find it hard to swallow that someone can buy a house with a 200 year old oak in the back garden and decide they don't like it or have decided they will have it out before they actually move in. They are barstewards in my opinion. Trees need protecting against muppets
  3. Got a point there Huck, I have to agree mate But shame most customers just see's you as a figure on a quote and if that figure isn't the lowest
  4. Well if that nose has been thumped and has a weak attachment point and I then told lies and that nose grew, it could become dangerous and fall off. My tuppence worth is, you guys might be quite happy to top and run off with the money, but what happens for the future managemnt of that tree, seems none of you care that in 10 years time some kid may be killed because some burk topped a tree and didn't advise the owners as to the future managment. Not that you'd care, as long as you got some money to feed your kids, stuff everyone elses
  5. Cheers Lee, thats a better photo than mine. If you see me logged on and not posting, I'm just looking at becky
  6. If there's subsidence then the builders at fault, nowadays building on clay soils....ooh, hang on a second, Becky Mantins doing the weather ... right where was I? Oh yes, Building on clay soils should be on a raft foundation and therefore unaffected by shrinkage and Heave. I had an Insurance company blame next door neighbours poplars for a porch showing signs of subsidence. The poplars were 50ft away. The foundations on the porch were non existent, some diy muppet had built it and then some insurance muppet wouldn't renew insurance unless the trees came down. Muppets!
  7. Nice one Mark, I love telling them that. It gives me a nice feeling in my tummy
  8. Most Tree Surgeons are the same, they are chuffed if someone comes over whilst doing a job and asks "what d'you do with your chip mate". Bingo! "Why d'you need some mate, we give it away free" Saves hauling it back to the yard.
  9. Already applied for an exemption Why's that then? What are they going to rob, my trees in the wood. Oh shite, your right, someone tried robbing two this week but I caught him. Seriously though, I have signs at the bottom of my drive saying tree surgery, no problems with robbing, I have an advert as we all do, no problems with robbing, my yard has two containers with nothing really worth nicking, they have tried to rob them but there's nothing but the tractor and brew kits in them. I leave them open when I'm there for all to see so no-one wastes their time, I'm considerate like that. If someone wants to rob you they will, they don't needs signs to tell them where your gear is
  10. Try the Lowther Bro's, Priestly hill, Queensbury, BFD. Just google it it should come up. I'm sure they'd be pleased to hear from you. Just type Lowther Bros, queensbury
  11. No Fluff, I meant your up and down trees all day every day
  12. No it isn't, what is, is charging £20 a load, loading it with a machine, taking it 8 miles for the customer to say, "hang on while I just move my car, open the gates or whatever" and spending 2 hours of your time earning £20 when I can earn £120 minimum in the same time. Next year, I'm going to charge others £15 to tip their chip, and still give it away. I absolutely love it when I see people advertising in the paper "Woodchip for sale" and they've got mountains of it and no room for anymore. I actually add £20 per load into my pricing, so I have been paid already for my chip Ed.
  13. I never have and I can honestly say I have never charged for woodchip. The reason I bought my woodland is because it has an access road to a scoutcamp running through it. That means hundreds of cars every weekend drive slowly past my chip pile and see the free chip sign. That was my business plan to get shut of woodchip without it costing money in a way where it is put to good use. All it has cost me is the price of the woodland, which has paid for itself and is an asset which increases in value. Quite good business sense if you don't mind me blowing my own trumpet.
  14. Just binned my Haix after two years of use and bought another pair.
  15. I couldn't put C@cks testicles because of the swear filter.
  16. Someone I know tried...I think it was pickled "hens testicles" at a party once, brought back from france. Pickled anything you say then Tom ?
  17. I don't find it acceptable to swap 1x 120ft black poplar and 1x 70ft Sycamore for a couple of "whips". If I was a little more unreasonable I'd ahve the barsteward replacing them with fully mature trees
  18. The problem is Andy, you have been brainwashed by the establishment into believing that logs and chip are waste when infact you should know better
  19. Please tell me the difference between the wood on the back of your truck and the wood on the back of mine. ..and the chip I have never tipped chip or logs for landfill, everything is recycled or used. at the end of the day why do we have to apply then get exempt, why not just exempt the Arb industry. What they should do is spend more money on fricking catching flytippers
