  1. got told the name of a tree the other day, but ive somehow managed to forget and its doing my head in now, think its a palm of some type, only seen them about 12' max height, have fury outside "bark" and very fibrous inside and long thin leaves up top. anyone help me please or ill not be able to sleep tonite!!

  2. ok its a 30 mile round trip to the job so i dont realy want to be going twice to just to put a bit of spray on, so if i sprayed it, left it a week then went back to turn it over, do you think thatd be ok? i want to do a proper job but also cant be making the costs too much for them. cheers for the relpies

  3. did a job today and their after the backyard turfed. Now ive layed turfing before but the ground has already been prepared, ive never actually done the preparation, so this garden is overgrown with weeds, nettles etc. just wondering am i going to have to remove all the weeds etc, or will i get away with strimming it the rotavating it? cheers for replies.

  4. ahh, that was something else i meant to ask. how people arrange when to go, so every three weeks seems about right. was thinking of so much per garden for the grass cutting as a set price, then anything else added as extra at the time. cheers again.

  5. ive had a mate ring me and his parents own some properties and are looking for someone to keep the gardens something like, im just wondering on costs to charge. presuming that it generally just needs the grass cutting, im thinking 20 quid per property, reckoning itll be about two hours from leaving my garage to getting done. what do people reckon? its all well and good saying factor in costs etc, but if the average charge is a tenner im not gonna get the work. cheers in advance mike

  6. would love to go with one of the large companues but they dont even seem to be highering at the moment!

thing is the bigger companies like fountains subbie moest of there work out, so no jobs there, and the slightly smaller firms know the shortage of work and pay accordingly. i got offered a f/t job nr newcastle last year and they were only paying about 6.00/hour and that included a bonus because i had hgv!! and that was a national company. other large companies like the subbie idea so they can get shut of you with no notice, as ive found out myself a number of times.

  7. i slightly misunderstood your original thread. im lucky in that i have a finger in lots of pies so not too often stuck for work. but things will only get worse i think, more colleges put out more people with the tickets, who cant get any work with existing companies, so decide to set up themselves, crowding the sector even further. Granted its not everyone who sets up themselves, but it doesnt need loads.

  8. Without sounding harsh mate, your not the only one in this position there's people on here with more tickets, tools etc. looking aswell. So like others have said keep trying get what you can and if nothing comes up do something else. I've had three days in as many months doing tree work, so I've been and done some labouring, some driving and off doing six weeks tractor driving soon. so stop moaning and get out there and work.like I said I'm not been funny, just truthful.
