  1. That Wales job wasn't too bad, just I don't like staying away!
  2. I'm already trying that got a little chipper etc but there's so much competition here it's a struggle.
  3. What vehicle are you looking at? Guessing an ldv or transit?
  4. Doing that mileage a month first thing I'd do was look where the nearest station was. If it's not on or very near the route I'd rule it out. I well fitted lpg conversion shouldn't be noticeable down on power.
  5. Saying that though it's a pain not being able to go to any garage to fill up.
  6. I'm not well up on modern cars, but my v8 90 works out about the same as a diesel one cost wise. But I get the joy of a v8
  7. True but it's easier to describe as that than anything else! It actually gets better as we are payed through an umbrella company and so get the privilege of paying them £20 a week to pay us! I sort my own tax etc. I can't complain too much as I'm in full tome work and that's better than I was last year, I'm just not doing the work I want to be doing and as such I'm learning nothing!
  8. Well hopefully the Rangey might go this weekend, so any tips for where to look for an astravan or similar? Keep trying ebay, vantrader and bca. Am I missing somewhere? Cheers mike
  9. I'm looking at similar at the moment, though I'm drawn to an astravan, o did have a days drive in a combo couple of years old, and did think it was noisy on the m/way. And that's coming from someone who drives a v8 90 daily! But maybe all small vans are like that?
  10. Yep an to make it worse I'm working for an agency! The problem being if anything goes wrong, I'm gonna end up in a right lob, as I'm not making enough "contacts" elsewhere.
  11. I'm not after sympathy, unless it leads to some "normal" work!
  12. For what difference it makes to the subject, I'm self employed with a company on an ongoing basis. I'm looking to get out of it though as the work I'm doing is the safety side of railway work, with a de-veg gang, rather than the actual de-veg side of it. Anyone who knows rail work will know what I'm on about (site warden/lookout work).
  13. Don't get me wrong I'm in work and have been told it's 12 months work too so I've no problem there, it's not the work I want to be doing but there's not much option at the minute. they are useless but seem to talk the talk etc. That seems to count for more.
  14. John, I'm already on that one mate there's no way I'm subbing forever! Your point about the colleges is exactly my point, how many actually are interested in it and how many just see it as an easy way to well paid work. I know what my work standard is like people I've worked for are always happy with my work I've no problem there.
  15. Haha rick you know I didn't mean you mate. Yeah ok.
  16. This is partly a question and partly getting something of my chest, but how the hell as a subbie do you compete? In my relatively short time doing it I've worked with some good lads and met people who have become good friends. But I've also had the pleasure of working with people who lie to get the work, like the guy who apparently has a chipper, but it's always somewhere else! Im not going into his chainsaw work!! A guy working as a supervisor who has as much experience as my dog. I know two "climbers" who never climb. It really irritates me that these people have jobs that could be filled by someone "normal"! I think the situation is made worse with the ease of getting saw tickets and it'll probably get worse too. So any suggestions?
  17. As above just on the off chance anyone needs a hand over the two bank holidays. Cheers mike 07764581557
  18. Yeah I presumed it would be. Thing is there's 100£ between the 56 and the 90 and theres only a cc between them. Guess I'll have to raid the piggy bank! Haha
  19. Looking at buying a new combi engine, any thoughts on the 56? I know it's the smallest one, will it run a pole saw and an extension or two ok? Cheers
  20. For nearly £5k then whatever time/costs for a tipper you'd be better off waiting for a tipper on ebay. One went for 6.5 recently.
  21. I'll try them rob. Ben are you moaning again?!
  22. Hi just seeing if there's any work going within an hours travelling of Manchester at the minute. Needs to be a week or two of work rather than odd days here and there. Got my cscs, cs30,31,38,39 first aid, hgv1, nptc tractor. I've got all my own kit etc. Cheers mike 07764581557
  23. So is it a scientific thing? Or just for fun? How close do you get to the magma? I love to do somet like that but wouldn't fancy the rope melting!
  24. Impressive pics. What's the reason for going down there?
  25. I have used one someone gave me to sharpen, I didn't think it was that noisy.
