  1. Poison Hi-vy gets my vote!! Or that new Calamine, purple looking version! Defo avoid the PI, i find its colour a pain in the arse! Black and green! I can see why people have cut their ropes with that!! (Although i am on Tachyon atm, but when the time comes i'll replace it with a bright version of the poison Ivy!)
  2. Yeah you gotta watch your biners!!!!!
  3. So you consider 35cm to be long enough? Too long? Or not long enough? I understand what you mean about inverting now, i think! If it did and pushed down on your hitch, then you'd drop like a brick!?
  4. Definately Not!!
  5. I am told from pictures that my tether is too short, should be longer and its best to be stiff as it advances the rope wrench better. Surely the optimum length of the tether for maximum efficiency will vary depending on what friction hitch you choose to tie, and the length of the Eye-to-Eye friction cord used?? This right? Or am i talking Pish?? I am new to this RW thing!!
  6. Great work Aaron and Rich! Love the time-lapse video!! Would love to have a crack at filming some of my work, from the helmet and from a distance... just need to purchase a camera first!!
  7. I climbed on a VT out there through winter! What do you mean "IT DID'NT WORK?" If it freezes to your rope, use the exhaust on your top-handle to warm it til it moves! You will get a bit of creep on iced up ropes sometimes when trying to work, but i never thought it was that much of a problem. I just used to tighten it everytime before i put my weight in it. I never had a VT "FAIL" completely causing a vertical fall due to iced up rope! Has anyone?? The de-icer for rope would be wonderful, surely there is some way of manufacturing a de-icing product that would not be harmful to ropes!? What is the coldest temperature any of you have ever climbed in? Just out of interest!!! Ed
  8. Start at the top! If in doubt where to make your cuts, get a groundie to eye you in to begin with, that should help you get started!!
  9. There was no damage to the rope. As the rope brushed along some of the branches, the thorns tended to rub off.
  10. Cheers Drew! A couple of people have said this, so i will give it a go! Thanks for the advice!
  11. How much are they??
  12. Silk Floss Tree (Ceiba speciosa) from tropical and sub-tropical forests in Argentina and Brazil. First one of this size i have encountered in Portugal though. Can't say i am in too much of a hurry to climb another one! There were a few swear words muttered as i climbed out on the branches to reduce it. Flowers were amazing though. Never worked on a tree with such beautiful flowers!!
  13. Hi David. Yeah work is busy! Flat out in the Algarve at the minute! Not even gonna make it back for Christmas this year unfortunately!
  14. Hi mate, i know the tree you mean!!! I did fell it, but I got no pictures I'm afraid! I used the winch on the land rover to pull her over in one! She was a fair size! I felled a few big ones in that park! I was there a while!
  15. Here are some pictures of a very interesting tree that i worked on last week! Spec was to reduce overhang from neighboring property! It was my first climb on the rope wrench too!
  16. Here are some pictures of a Beech i took down in Coventry last year whilst subbyin to Beechwood Trees and Landscapes!
  17. I asked myself that so many times out there mate - In the end i couldn't come up with an answer - so i left! It's a good experience, glad i did it, but feel sorry for the guys out there who have to do it year in, year out! You earn every damn penny working in those temperatures!!
  18. I know Ben well too, and Gally! I thought it might be you!!! That's why i asked!! I'm Ed, i've worked with Ben and Gal. I was working with Gal in London early this year!! He has spoke about you before!! Who you working for in Sweden?
  19. MIKELAWN - Your a Grimsby lad? You know Ben Winson of Clee Tree Services? Or any of the lads from Greencuts? How long you been in Sweden?
  20. It really ain't fun! I love Sweden to bits, but i'm glad i ain't working there this winter! Its mentally draining climbing round snow-covered trees in minus 20 degrees!
  21. Winters are great fun over there! Wait til your revving the nuts out of ya top-handle saw with the exhaust pointing onto your VT to thaw it out, just so you can move! Two pairs of gloves on trying to open frozen biners, Not being able to feel your limbs all day! Oh how i miss it! Ropes need thawing out and drying overnight! I left mine in the truck overnight a few times, frozen solid the next morning in all sorts of interesting shapes! It came out the rope bag in one solid LUMP!!
  22. A beaver perhaps!?
  23. "The person we are after must have a minimum of NZQA Level 5 or overseas equivalent qualification" Anyone know what the UK or European equivalent of this would be??
