  1. Good idea!
  2. I shall look forward to hearing how well it works, poor groundie. This coming back for the replacement kit business is a bugger.
  3. Still interested in finding good climber who has good eye for aesthetic pruning and capable of large felling (some technically difficult). Good rate of pay & kit. Must have good work ethic and high standard of work. If anyone is interested please contact Evolution Tree Works Ltd. 01767 313 086, or e-mail [email protected]
  4. I am pleased for you that the thieves did not get in, even if there was not much for them to steal. kit. Thieves came back to our yard, Friday befor elast, cut the lock of the container and broke into the shed too. Did not take anything, as nothing to take! Nonetheless, perturbing to know that some thieves are actively keeping tabs on us (assuming it was the same set of thieves as in December). We have split log thief too. Like the cannon! Thought of electrocution upon unauthorised opening of container! Sods law though, someone forgets and bang, or rather, sizzle, there goes the groundie!

Second that! It is a lovely piece of kit, makes clearing up much quicker and provides no excuse for not tidying up thoroughly. Takes a delicate touch, though, in small areas as it is so powerful.
  6. Me neither! Seems to be a bit of a shortage round Herts/Beds border, so if you happen to find a spare freelancer who has good eye for aesthetic pruning, capable of big fells (technically difficult) etc, will you send them our way, pretty please . We offer good pay/kit varied work etc. Forgive me to butt in on your request, Roller.
  7. A study was undertaken by university of Cambridge (east malling research) called "controlling water use of trees to alleviate subsidence risk" (horticulture LINK project 212). The final report, May 2004) is interesting and may be of some use to you.
  8. Our yard in at the edge of a well tended and expensive village, not sure how dodgy it is. MattyF's at another well kept village that gives no indication of being dodgy. Lol- makes me thing of the Queen having an univited visitor in her bedroom years ago. Does she live in a dodgy area? I am inclined to think that if someone wants to break in to a place, they will find a way, all it takes is a bit of perserverance and planning. One cannot cover all contingincies, and **** happens- all the time, not nice but much of the goings on in the world are not pleasant, nothing new there.
  9. but if someones got more ambition than I had, I would have done it, to late now Tony What do you mean?
  10. Rock & Roll! Well done! Not the easiest thing to do, you must be a patient and dedicated, not to mention sensible, person. Long may you rise!
  11. I spoke with gent fro Defra last May/June, he said new law permits burning arisings on the site from which they are gained, excluding, obviously, no burn zones.
  12. they used a gas axe, they tried to tool one lock, then just cut through the metal.
  13. Thank you, Roller. It made us all sick to our stomachs. Not so much the theft of things, but that they took our story...each saw, each tool, had a story, from the littlest to the 3120xp. Mind you, new for old should work out favourably, and that it occurred as we were winding down for the year, as opposed to busiest season, lessened the impact somewhat.
  14. I think the man who does our welding is going to use boiler plate or similar to repair the container. We had five heavy duty padlocks, one armoured, the thieves tried tooling one of the locks, then just cut through all five of them and the laches. We were robbed sometime afrer midnight (gamekeeper left then) and seven in the morning (gamekeeper returned), so half an hour to gain access does not matter as no one is around between those hours (Friday night), and noise is not an issue, as there are not any neighbours closeby.
  15. Wood chip and logs are not waste if they are a product, surely. Pedantic, perhaps, but I consider them both to be raw materials that can be processed into a product. Therefore, the moving of them is not transfer of waste. Surely? And the removal of arisings from site is part of a service. Just a thought.
  16. Not too mention the angle on the 6" Timberwolfs, tedious to say the least. The 150 has better access, but I have not changed the blades on that one so I cannot say, but the gents prefer it.
  17. Very cool.
  18. Undong the screw on the old chipper (Timberwolf 6") with genuine Timberwolf blades was a right chore, as the metal was soft and the edges would smooth out, guaranteed to scrape the knuckles.
  19. We pay £175 a month for some space on a farm where we have a shipping container, room for vehicles (incl. tractor). and a small mountain of wood chip, and logs; although we had to install cables, meter etc in order to have electricity supply for lights and log splitter. The security is poor as it it in a quiet place with no residents and only gamekeepers presence at odd hours. Thus far we have not recieved a bill for electricity. Before that we paid £180 for a space on a farm where we had use of tractor and electricity, but did not store equipment there, apart from a vehicle & log splitter ( no electricity charge as farmer made use of logsplitter and we supplied wood chip for menage). Bonus was a big burning unit. It was more secure, being at the back of a working farm where people lived full time, and horsey people were always in and out.
  20. We use Saturn Knives, no problem with quality.
  21. With silk long underwear underneath. Silk is very light and feels excellent next to the skin and one can still move fluidly. I refer natural (plant or animal) fibres best. They definitely stand up next to new synthetic materials. Just a matter of getting right combination. And womens tights do make a difference. Light layers beat bulkiness everytime, in my opinion.Especially if one still ones to be able to bend & move! Helly Hanson make excellent cold weather gear, as the gentleman (apparently) who started H.H. was a Norwegian (if I remember correctly) who worked outdoors, boats I think.
  22. Indeed! Thought that myself, cynical creature that I am!
  23. Yes, inflexible pricing surely will end in loss of much bread and butter business. The little jobs add up.
  24. We use Bryant Kesek, and NFU for tractor and vehicles. We have recently put a claim in with Bryant Kesek, not sure how good they will be with paying up. Hopefully, they will be brilliant!
  25. Do you play it by ear, so to speak? We have a basis we would like to earn per day, but jobs vary and so we price accordingly.
