The bloke in the shop said dont use 3 way karbiners because there not shutting right. i have used 3 ways at college but we make sure they get the WD40 treatment prior to climbing. Any thoughts?
  9. I think it is important to know the species your working with. depending on the managment, formative pruning , vunlerabilty to diseae in some species, reactions to decay and timber strengthm, best place to plant them ecte. i think you need to know what your working with. Get a good book on tree pruning and learn what the trees need is. The pruning of trees , shrubs and conifers is a good book.
  10. thanks pentecools..no drawing needed. TA
  11. thanks erveyone for the advice. Is a redirect two climbing lines?or is that your pull belt or am i just being a wally?
  12. When your ascending a tree , apart from choosing not to use dead limbs for anchor points..(for obvious reasons). Is there a certain width of limb you would not trust. I know that Common oak limbs even smaller ones would be stronger than say poplar limbs that are big and seem stronger. Whats the thoughts on this out there.
  13. i know that dormant buds go deep into the heartwood. Dont sound good to me to cut into the cambuim thou! But then i new to arb and dont that much.

  15. its going to be more of a problem of others perceptions , rather than me being to old. if the empolyers gets the choice between a young bloke and a oldie..whats going to sway him? Age descripnation and all that. will see what happens this year.
  16. Im 40 and just getting into the trade...your never to young...the more i climb the fitter i get. cant wait to start working in the trees. Still a student doing BTEC NA in Arb. il do it for as long as i can!
  17. that was good. nice to see the perspective in the tree from someone else.
  18. I know its not as exciting as your other photos of takedowns and climbing and felling ecte. But after my poll on how many trees get planted i wanted to readdress the balance. the class at college planted metasequioa today , limes , and wild service trees in a local Museums grounds. They had a nice London plane there. had to prune back the hazel to allow for room for the service tree to grow.
  19. were did you find the lantra course log-oligist? Dou you have to be in the trade to do a level 3 course or can anyone do it?
  20. lol.it must be a Norfolk thing!
  21. you mean talk trees down!!! glad to hear that there are companies out there that dont just fell trees because thats the easiest option.
  22. i just wondered what the main aspect of arb work is? is it... take downs plantings reductions crown lifting branch removal giving advice Its just i heard someone mention that there were companies called 'tree care' and all they do is fell trees and nothing else.
  23. i woudnt trust anyone but my self to tie my own prussic. not vanity , just wouldnt want to lose the knowledge of how to tie one. For me its like sat Nav , you rely on a computer and you forget to how to read and oreintate a map.
