    Query

Big A..chip or burn on site. Those were the days. Next fire for me and it's up to £20k fine and or 6mths porridge. Fires and construction sites forget it nowadays. My opinion is burning is the best recyling going, big pile wood = little pile ash, and it seems to work really well down the local crem. shame the council don't agree...lol
  2. We recently had a HSE inspector call and this was a sore point we touched on. His view was that as long as we could show that our kit was checked on a regular basis everything was ok. 1 climber can check and sign off another climbers kit. As for shared lowering kit another firm can check your kit. You do dot have to go through a Loler inspector and pay, that is just one option. Any competent person checking meets the current guidelines.
  3. bset of all. when my nine year old son saw his pony having a piggy back on his sisters. Dad, Dad he's upper again
  4. when boss tries to bollock you Who are you Me dad. When customer asks,do you send a bill. Does Tesco ? Reply from a good salesman. To tell you the truth Arborist talking to customer. You can't improve on nature Same arborist talking to wife of 20 years. put more makeup on
  5. All I use is subby climbers. I have all the insurance covered PL and EL plus Proff Ind. It's simple you come you do the job, which will include a spell being a brash rat and you get paid the agreed fee. I don't ask you to take on something I would'nt or could'nt do myself. A CV and NPTC's means nothing to me but turn up with the right gear, work and look like a climber whilst trying to avoid any damage and your 90% there. The other 10% comes when we see the real you. IE your taste in women and beer..lol
  6. In genral. Turn both H & L screws fully in, turn out 1 full turn each ( make sure you have enough on T screw to tick over) all saws should start. On Tick over turn L screw out slowly until engine peaks, turn back 1/4 turn. On full revs, turn out H screw until full peak (sounds like it's going to blow into a million bits) turn back 1/4 turn.
  7. Big A.. I got caught in an old escort van with a young lady (many years before i met the present mrs TC....honest). Tap on the window and a 12 bore pointing at us. The farmer thought I was poaching, Luckily he knew the young lady and accepted that, that kind of poaching was OK and she was fair game....lol.....Still s**t me self though
  8. The idea of felling licenses was to control farmers and land owners from felling trees for firewood. They are allowed to fell a certain quantity every quarter as long as the wood is for their own use. If they wanted to fell more they would require a felling license from the FC. The FC states that when considering an application,it will check with the local LPA to ensure that the trees are not TPO or TCA. From that you can assume that the farmer is talking a load of bull.

    TPO maps

There's no requirement to submit a map or to use an application form. An hand written note is enough, Just make sure they can ID the tree, easy if it's the only one in the garden. Remember anyone can make an application, so the process has to be simple. Our council send a plan if we ask. Some will ask you to use OS maps and charge a fee. You do not have to use them. Some council tree officers make stupid requests. Site plans, OS maps, application forms and reports all in multi copies. It saves them work. Read the guide it actually states that councils " should not ask for multi copies "
  10. I don't have one, If I get stopped by the EA I'm carrying goods usually logs and chip but if I get stopped by the ministry men it's waste not goods and be careful of the red diesel crew. A unimog is a tractor and tractors only pull, push or power they don't actually carry anything, which is a bit difficult when you have a chip box. Nearly got caught out on that point, So I suggested they stop every combine or beet machine, if they had one grain of corn or one sugar beet on board they would have to do them aswell. The guy said good point on your way. I'm not tight I just get so pi**ed off with all the red tape,it's become something of a game.hehe
  11. I use a farmi 260 on the back of a U1000 and it's all urban work. I can get in places where a tranny pickup and mobile can't. Would not swap this rigg for any mobile unit i't so cheap to run and any one can drive, no lgv/hgv etc
  12. The highways dept would have to serve a notice under miss 5 of the act and prove that there was a probable danger or that an actionable nusiance (actionable in court) was present. A leaning tree is usually no more risk than a straight tree, Although you would have to look at loading etc. A simple Arb inspection and report would be enough for you client to get a court injuction to stop the felling. They could also use the argument that the council owns this and that tree in the same condition and if a danger exists with your clients then theirs must be the same. How would the council stand if they felled this tree on safety grounds and then one of their own failed. Usually a talk with the tree officer pointing out a few h & S issues work. Someone mentioned a tree and a light. If a tree is in a Conservation area it is protected the same as if it was covered by a TPO and the penalties are exactly the same. Alas statutory undertakers such as electric have an exemption under the act. Most statutory undertakers have agreed to carry out arb works in accordance with good practice. I'm sure a call to the local newspaper, pointing out that they could easliy relocate the street light would help. Councillors need votes and they hate bad publicity in their ward.
  13. Bt Lines. If the wire is through the tree on private property Bt usually remove it FOC. If not and we have to pay, then out comes the screwdriver. Had a few nips on the tongue finding the live wires though.lol. PS, if you find a friendy BT engineer, croos his palm which pitures of the queen (not stamps) and you can aquire some fancy little water proof joining gadjet. Stick wires in,out with the fag lighter and hey presto. As for damage to fences etc, we usually work out wether it's cheaper to knack the panel or remove it first. Most customers accept that there may be some damage to lawns etc. What pi**es me off is when you spend hours dismantling a monster, miss the house, shed and greenhouse and some bitch goes barmy because you snapped the flower head of some plant that was bought for her birthday yonks ago by her spotty faced sprog thats probably going to be the next prime minister. Hey, we think we have bad days, just seen papers, some video of a royal in a sex act, and mention of envolopes with white powder, two blaggers and a ransom. Hehe. have a nice day
  14. Hi steve, Unimog here, From the old site's, thought I'd spruce me name up, Ian Yorksman only pointed me here last nite. good site though.
