  1. I was supposed to do it in 2013 but broke my colar bone, did the long one in 2014.. on a cyclocross bike.. amazing ride but would have be much more fun on a mountain bike..
  2. But what about other products/ali and wooden roadways. Much simpler to install, cheaper (probably still not heard back from cellweb) and I bet as effective.. What bulk density impedes root growth? I remember seeing a figure once.. I think when looking at capping dumps..
  3. Which is fine as that is mentioned in the BS That is the issue... Who is the competent person? An engineer will tell you that the structure will withstand the load but not what that load will do to the soil and roots. What we need is some evidence based research to justify any advice we give. Cellweb provides that data so can be specified. Presumably and engineer could work out what surface area is needed to spread a load.. But a soil scientist would need to specify how that compacts a soil. The arb should have figures to say if that reduction in air space is acceptable to the root environment. I have never seen those figures..
  4. Cheers, for that. When there are multiple ways of doing things do you just recommend the best (easiest to prove) irrespective of cost. I am sure 100mm hardwood roadway over a layer of wood chip would be effective but because the roadway suppliers have not done the research like cell web it is difficult to back up the specification...
  5. Cheers, I am waiting to hear back from them. Do you know the sort of costs?
  6. The trees have TPO's there is no other way in, the canopies will be fine, we just need to protect the compaction of root zone. I am pretty sure the cellweb can distribute the weight although they have not got back to me. The ali and hard wood roadway people both say their products are fine but can't provide any evidence.
  7. Construction traffic could be 30 tons of dump truck..
  8. While I am thinking about it does anyone have experience for moling or directional drilling to get the services in?
  9. What are the best options. The house is being built and construction traffic is going to need to pass over the RPA, only 15m. "5837 6.2.3.3 .. ground protection should be capable of supporting any traffic etc.." What have people used and how can you demonstrate that the protection is acceptable? Options so far- Construct temporary cellweb road. Lots of literature demonstrating effectiveness but expensive.... Ali roadway or Hardwood roadway - cost less, easy to install. but I don't have evidence to demonstrate it's effectiveness
  10. Fristards do a fantastic gore-tex hi viz jacket. Very expensive but worth it. If you are small or very small there are a few old models for sale on ebay - absolute bargain only £90 for a £300 jacket. http://www.performanceworkclothing.co.uk/fristads-hi-vis-yellow-gore-tex-parka-100989-gxb-4834-14243-p.asp Fristads HI VIZ Gore TEX Jacket Orange Waterproof Windproof Breathable | eBay I also don't agree with Old Mill re goretex. I don't like being cold and wet, but I do like cold wet places... I am a believer in the old saying there is no such thing as bad weather just bad equipment. It might well have been designed for high altitude climbing and it might perform better in those environments, but it is still better then any other fabrics I have used. I have used it just about every wet environment including the wet west coast of New Zealand, mountains of the Himalayas, Jungles of the Philippines as well as the soggy UK.. As far as I am aware it wasn't used in salt water environments in the old days as the salt clogged up the pores but apparently they have sorted that now. Hobby fisherman just sit around all day, not working up a sweat so don't need it to be breathable. Commercial fishermen need something tougher that can be hosed down to wash of the fishy smell.
  11. We have big chippers...
  12. I didn't want to kill them, I tried sealing the exits with expanding foam, hoping we could crane them to a new location, stung once trying... There are more exits, I am also concerned that the cavity runs to the base of the tree so they would swarm out when we lift it off anyway. The pest people are unfortunately going to poison. Shame as I wanted some honey...
  13. I tried the HCC studies towards the Prof diploma ten years ago and it was similar. Came in nice ring binders mind. I still have them...
  14. Full time post for qualified climber now available..
  15. It's statements like this from "professional pest control companies" that are confusing the issue.. I can find no legal protection in the UK... Apparently there could be 60kgs of honey in this nest!
  16. Please only answer if you can back up your answer or are sure you are correct! I am pretty sure there is no legal protection for honey bees, I have done a google search and not found any evidence to the contrary. But 3 separate people including someone told by a council pest controller have said that they are.. I know that they are under threat.. This particular nest is 9 ft up a rotten poplar so we could try and seal off the nest and crane the whole thing off but I reckon the cavity will run to the base so we will end up with some angry bees.. Also bee keeper has said they are unlikely to survive being moved at this time of year!

  18. We loved the squirrel in our old house have another morso now an insert one also very good. I need a very small stove for a 4.3x3.8 x2.2m well insulated room any recommendations. I rekon 4kw would be to hot even with the door open..
  19. But its OK for the OP to do it?
  20. I charge for ones that I think are going to get rejected... Those that I am pretty sure will go through are included in the works.
  21. We have laws and should all stick to them.. I would have wanted to do the same.. but.. I think it is more likely to end in more tears. It doesn't take any balls to sneak back another night with a can of petrol and take retribution.. You could also end up in court for assault or worse he might have gone home with a concussion and ended up dead (these thinks happen) you then end up done for murder.. It's a risk benefit analysis and to save your yard for one night you have created lots of risks. IMO.
  22. While I agree they are scum and understand the desire, I don't think it sounds like your response letting him fall over is fair or necessarily proportionate. It is unlikely to be a life changing event for the unfortunate little individual and it is unlikely to make him mend his ways. Violence leads to violence and next time he might go tooled up for protection. You also now have made an enemy who might just go at torch your site for revenge, chances are he and his friends will remember and want payback, as non law abiding citizens they might go even further then you.
  23. Bright yellow van with Logo's all over it parked on the drive...
  24. Over the years I have often been appalled by stories, generally from little old ladies who have been ripped off, but today was a new one. I quoted to undertake some works at a client who we have been visiting for over ten years. She is in her 90's lives alone and can't move around easily, her son now shows me round, we discuss the works and I send a written quote, we then fix a date do the job and leave and invoice. Well the day after I had visited some unmentionable turns up at the door claiming to be from Canopy and needing a £60 deposit before we can do the works. She gives them all she has which is £30.. and says they will be back later for the rest. It might only be £30 but the psychological damage to her and the way it is going to leave her feeling vulnerable makes me mad.. How can these people sleep an night?
