    It's a biggish area to strim.. and I don't thing the ivy cover wouldn't strim that well... is there a walk behind mulcher?

    If you can afford it, don't sell the Landy? Our 130 is probably our most expensive vehicle, it is also used the least... Buy a transit type tipper and only bring the LR out when needed, it's not like its depreciating or anything and can be infinitely repaired. The Transit chipper, LR trailer make a great combo.

    I have a client who has moved into a large house surrounded by about 3 acres of woods. They want to be able to "use the woods." I am not sure they know what for, but they want to be able to walk though it.. There is very dense ground cover, nettles, brambles, ground elder, ivy. One corner is has a lot of bluebells and they would like to encourage them to spread through to the overgrown bit. What is the best way to manage the undergrowth and make it "usable." They are not interested in pigs or chickens or anything like that. They are willing to pay a contractor to come in and maintain it...

    I normally top rope. Put a pulley or cambian saver at top and let them climb the tree while belaying from the ground.

    Foxmedics recommended the impregnated bandages. These are very different to an Israeli blood stopper, or tampon.. They do much more! The granules as others have mentioned are difficult to apply especially under stress and in inclement weather. The granules end up places that you don't want them, like eyes. They highly rated the impregnated bandages for our industry, and tourniquets... Neither of which I had been shown on previous first aid courses and I have been on many over the years...

    If you can, go to the AA Barrell BS5857 Advanced Tree Assessment for planning. They take a slightly different view to some loquacious members on here, but more in line with my thinking. Basically C category trees anything not worthy of being material constraint. They divide them into 10 subcategories including - size, legal exemptions, deteriorating health/condition, excessive nuisance and good management.

    We had a good day renewing our first aid training today and would recommend Katie at FoxMedics. She came to site and ran the arb specific course that included the stuff we need to know including, tourniquet, defibrillator and celeox use. There was a good mix of class room with gory pics and scenarios, where we acted out scenes. It was much more use than the standard Red Cross one we did two years ago and with 10 of us pretty good value. FOX MEDICS LIMITED - Corporate First Aid Training by HCPC Paramedics I think FoxMedics will be at the Arb show..

    I have a client who is shipping in vine wood from France and wants to chip it for smoking. Has anyone done this sort of thing. Can you get the sort of product out of a wood chipper that would be suitable for smoking with?

    Not necessarily expensive, but a small part I think it was an exhaust mount took a week to get. Stuff for ivecos is almost always next day..

    We have the duel wheel Izusu and it's a great truck although parts have been more of an issue then with our iveco's. Although to be honest it hasn't needed much. I recently looked into a single wheel 3.5 ton Iveco (an ex organic food delivery vehicle) lowish miles with a tipper fitted, but I came to the conclusion that there must be a reason they normally supply tippers with duel wheels. In the end we got one :sneaky2:with duel wheels.. but that has just had major issue with the diff....

    Its never that simple.. some guys might need to get tickets, some want them. Some might want them and need them. These issues dont happen when there are only 2 of you..

    What about if it was I had said i have a lad who really wants to do some training, I am willing to pay for the training if he does it in holiday. Is that fair..?

    I am after opinions. No decisions have been made, by me or my employees. I like using Arbtalk as a sounding board to gauge what others think so I can make informed decisions. You would be amazed at how often others think you are wrong... When clearly they are.. For guys without driving licences it is a right PITA trying to get to locations to do training. A simple solution is to send them away to a for a week or so at a time. They come back with tickets.. I want to be fair so if i offer it to non drivers I have to do the same to drivers.. .

    Interesting to hear others views.. When I was new to the industry I would have jumped at the chance.. But then I paid for all my own training.. In all my own time.. I did give them the option of doing it locally and they would not have had to take holiday..

    Just after feedback as to if I am being a fair and reasonable employer.. I need to put some guys through CS training. A number of them can't drive so getting them to CS courses that are always of the way is always difficult... I have offered to put them on a residential course and pay for the training and accommodation, is it fair to ask for them to take the time off as holiday? I paid for all my own training and would have jumped at the opportunity but my guys don't all seem to be that keen? They don't have kids to look after at home..

    I have started using the ignore feature. It's great, I just don't read anything from the people who annoy me.. I get mild satisfaction now when I see: "This message is hidden because "irritatingarb" is on your ignore list." So if I don't reply to a comment you make that might be why.. I also suggested having option so that you could also block people from viewing your posts.. If it could be done this would cut down on the trolls as they just wouldn't see the posts.. .

    We did once, about 10 years ago wrapped around the flywheel and caused over a grands damage as I recall.. Never again... We have a Vermeer 230xl, which is a bit smaller then the 1000xl. We have had it a couple of years now. It's been good, although it has just started leaking hydraulic fluid..

    This was an interesting job.... I am amazed the trees thrived with such limited soil/root space... Not surprised they blew over...

    I have a couple of guys I would like to put on apprenticeships. I did it a few years back with a local company and we had to pay. I hear lots about government funding for apprentices has anyone any advice as to how I can tap into it...

    I had a similar situation, Silver birch in conservation area with TPO, nothing amazing only 30-35 years old, but very close to the house. It will become more and more of an issue in the future. There is space to plant another tree a 4 or 5 meters further from the house that would be less of an issue. I suggested felling and replanting but they wouldn't go for that. I also tried the can we plant one and remove the problem tree in 5 years once the new one is established and their answer was we would have to reapply to fell in 5 years. The client did not want to be stuck with 2 protected trees in his front garden so we just cut it away from the building... I feel TO's are often way to protectionist, and don't think long term..

    Coincidently I have seen a TP175 today behind a Landy.. Trouble is with demos's is they don't show up the issues that occur a year or two down the line... I don't know but have a feeling these light weight models have to compromise something..

    While looking at first aid courses found a buyers guide in Pro arb. http://flickread.com/edition/PensordFreeLibrary/568f80343b9f6/ Looks to me like it is between the GM150 or TW230. How are these machines lasting. Orange plant txt today with 2014 machines with 300 hrs... That's nothing for a big chipper but are these light weight machines worn out by then?
