  1. I don't know if you supposed to change the shackles with every new bridge, but it might not be a bad idea anyway. If you don't need to change the bridge the locktight will undo, but shouldn't allow the bolts to vibrate out with use. Be carefull I think there are different strengths of locktight some don't come free after setting unless youve got a blow torch and a big hammer!
  2. 12th Oct We have had in over 30 new arboricultural related jobs in the last few weeks including those for grounds people, climbers, survayors and consultants. At Arbjobs.com you apply directly to the employer take time to compile and save a good application email then cut and paste it to as many employers as you require. Good Luck Nick
  3. Do you guys use locktight red (sets like Nylock) to semi secure the fixing screws in place on your bridges ?
  4. What do you guys think about commisioning a graffiti artist to do a logo? Letters could be sort of mirroring a treescape this would be kind of urban jungle meet arboriculture, I think graffiti can be a bit like tree work when its done well its great and when its done badly it looks Sh8t! A great Graffitied logo would look cool on TShirts too. What do you guys think?
  5. Dagmar I think quite a lot of the arb subjects are a little dry and heavy reading a few of the better publications do take time to dig up some real ground breaking stuff that may be of interest to us all. The internet and forums like Arbtalk do allow us all to transfer info quicker but youv'e got to remember a lot of guys in the industry don't even have a PC. You young'uns have grown up with the internet and computers but the closest older farts like me got to anything technical was an Atari space invaders game at the pub! is Atari and slinkies retro cool yet or should I leave them in the attic?
  6. No I guess you would just send the boys round to break my legs then I wouldn't have a leg to stand on!!
  7. Noddy at http://www.treeworker.co.uk had some really nifty kit bag / rucksacks he and Ben were using at the competitions this year. Lots of stowage area with side pockets for other bits and unzippered completely to allow you access to your rope and harness within. They looked as if they would hold most of your everyday climbing kit. Not sure what make they were but I think he has a few options available. Just popped over to find them for you they are made by Eldrid not as cheap as a Husky bag but a damned site easier to move around! view them here: http://www.treeworker.co.uk/acatalog/Equipment_Transport_68.html
  8. I don't think competition hosts eg Tree Care Ireland mind where the winner herald's from UK America commonwealth etc and I am sure they would get the prize to you. However due to legal constraints we (Arbjobs.com) have been advised to make clear the competition is only open to folk from the UK so anyone found breaking the rules (as if any of you guys would!!) doesn't have a leg to stand on if they try to take any legal action against us, are you following my drift here? Good luck to you ....all! Nick
  9. St Peters booking in everyone to heaven one day when a couple of transit load of Pikies turn up Seeing them arrive St Peter thinks it best to let God know "God there a load of Pikies at the Pearly Gates, what should I do? " asks St Peter "Well you had better go and see what they want " says God So St peter goes off, a few minutes St Peter runs back and cries "They've gone!" "What all of them?" asks God "No the F&Cking Pearly Gates!"
  10. Ask Rupert about one of his regular customers, a little old lady who phones him with the request to "Trim my bush" well how could he refuse!!
  11. Good luck to you all we do our best to keep you guys & Gals employed and happy!
  12. In association with Tree Care Ireland http://www.arbjobs.com are offering you all the chance to win one of the new TreeMotion climbing harnesses. Click on to http://www.arbjobs.com to have a go then get yourself back over here to http://www.arbtalk.co.uk the best UK forum. Good luck, Nick @ Arbjobs.com
  13. Just letting you guys and girls know we have two new jobs in Australia and one in New Zealand posted recently. Loads in UK. Sorry about using the forum to push Arbjobs.com but no point keeping quiet about these oppotunities is there?
  14. Before you start you really need to analyse the potential earnings against hours spent quoting maintaining and fixing kit, and carrying out the work. Take from these costs taxation depreciation on kit (it will need replacing at some point) marketing (you will need to advertise and this isn't cheap) and running costs including yard rental etc. Then remove days not worked due to bad weather and breakdowns holidays etc and I think if you do the sums and are realistic you will find that you will probably be working your nuts 60 hours a week for only a few more quid than you are currently earning. Then include the effects the stress of running your own business will have on your social and family life. Then decide if it still sounds so rosey, I know we have all wanted to set up on our own and some of us did it, but it isn't easy make sure you have a pit of money for the first year borrow as little as possible from the bank, they sometimes want it back at the most inappropriate moments! and try and take as little from the business as possible for the first year. I hope I haven't put you off but having been there myself I wish someone had told me all this fifteen years ago. Good luck, Nick
  15. Hello all very new to all this forum stuff so, be gentle with me!
