  5. You need to decide whether you need a chipper or shredder. They are basically two different mechanical processors which handle different sorts of material and produce a different end product.

  7. I know that a few Swb Shoguns were vans - Balmers GM had them as Rep's tow tugs. I think they still got a couple but they are cock all use with a family!
  8. How much is the change in the insurance from private to commercial? Or at least cover including work in a 'car' against a commercial vehicle. When I were a yoof, having a van was a cheap ride, I got told the other year that nowadays, commercial vehicle insurance was bloody dear!

  10. We always pondered this issue, "who the hell cares and who the hell checks?". Tier 5?, who are the emissions Police and what are the penalties? Sub 750? Anyone ever get a tug for something just out of the scope? Doubt it..... We could all change the settings in the electrics, swap a couple of belts and pulleys, break the seal on the throttle stop and wind it up and boom! Back to 35hp and nobody knows! Tuners have been doing stuff like that since the I.C.E was invented! What happens when a part of the engine fails? (Unlikely I know) The Kubota Approved Service Agent sees the broken seal, and the warranty is void.
  11. We were talking about this a while ago. It leaves the manufacturer with a CE plate which forms it's identity. Once the identity changes, the CE plate is invalid. All a load of tosh I know.....but that is what stands. We aren't allowed to tow those not fitted with the CE plate on the road - even though it is the same spec etc as the one with the plate! Yonks back, I had a County Transit, I got it second hand from a dealer. As part of the deal, I got them to swap the smoky 2ltr petrol for a diesel. I got a producer one day and the Police noticed that the V5 still stated Petrol and advised me that the identity was then not as stated so all insurance was invalid. Similar situation in a way.
  12. Ooof! That last statement.... It should be stated in changing the Tier 5 settings on the Kubota 1505 to the previous tier 4 ratings is against Kubota's warranty policy and could also render the whole machine policy invalid. Same goes for any make of machine so altered. I know that we have all worked very hard at applying the Tier 5 regs but it has been mooted that a supplier could back away if their power units are being changed and the manufacturer or any of their agents is quilty of this 'crime. I know that it is being pernickety but, if they are altered, in theory, the CE Pkate is then invalid and could void your motor or plant insurance too.
  13. All Defenders are "left hand drive", you cannot move your right hand but can hold the wheel while your left changes gear!
  14. Can you turn it freely? I'm not aware of a hole in the drum casing to push it through. Ask @Jase hutch when he pops on here....

  16. I'm not too sure but....I'm going for the 'axle' for the pulley has some thread on it and possibly some loctite?
  17. I got this from both side being retired but objecting to car noise as son goes off to work occasionally at 3am. Plus I got a hot rod I start several times a year. I'm close to asking them to buy me out as I don't live in a retirement village! The have been ace over the years but hell, we still work for a living!
  18. Wished I could say yes! To be fair,Jensen are a well made bit of kit. In my opinion, a drum machine and backed up with a swing shovel with a straight grab or grip n snip would have been a better option for a site job. That Jensen would be best suited to rail with a flat ground and easy access to site with no real thick timber greater than say 8". As Ash says, probably well more than you estimate but that adds to the flavour and yes, in excess of 4000kgs which is tractor trailer or big truck!
  19. At a G per shift,, it may take 60 shifts to pay for it, maybe a load more! But that doesn't include transport for a 4000kg item, diesel, man power, servicing costs, huge spares package, breakages etc.....plus the cutting prior!
  20. The drive motors have an internal brake. Ordinarily, you would need flow to unlock the brake. I would suggest that an internal seal has broken and the brakes are gradually getting pressurised by the leak and effectively getting took off. Quite dangerous, would suggest that you put a block in front of each track to prevent a run away.
  21. I'd warrant that the price is spicy enough to make you weep! I see as many downsides to this as to wonder why it happened and only a few upsides - feeding thorny stuff in along a row for one, but not over efficient in doing bigger timber. But the cost/benefit analysis doesn't work for me. Well done to Jensen and the customer for having the stones to do it mind!
  22. Tacho units are a necessary evil based on haulage being your main job. It is advisable to get used to, and always doing, the paper version to back up the card. We are all guilty of not doing so as the percentages are on our side by and large! On my GreenMech Ranger tow tug, you can press driver one button for drive, work or rest and it automatically will always revert to drive once the truck moves, returning to the previous setting when you stop... Remembering to set it to 'out of scope' is another thing I have a habit of forgetting. I too have left the card in for a few days, even when someone else has jumped in! I have only been had for one tacho infringement in 20 odd years and that was for being in scope, not having a card(disc) in place and not keeping daily, manual records. Boom! £200 for the one offence of not keeping manual records. At that time, I didn't know you had to! I just make a note in the diary if I remember now....
  23. They have to have massively strong gearboxes driving the infeed/cutters, I would think that over a period the blades on the rollers would blunt but they should be changeable. I did wonder how you could 'log' into hessian bags and throw the whole bag into something like a Farm2000 enclosed burner. But you would need some space to store enough bags to dry or keep dry. They certainly fill bags quickly enough! Still look bloody dangerous though!
  24. Couldn't watch a film of someone getting dragged in! Seems that some do appear to have bars or stop button but the very thought of what could go wrong makes me shudder! Log quality ain't good neither tbh!
  25. Have a look at any YouTube video of them, like chipper but no control over the infeed rollers! No emergency stop to speak of, no reverse and a short chute! You'd get chopped into 4 inch lumps!
