If you were to plant a woodland in a garden it follows that the land use is now a woodland. If that's the case then you could theoretically thin out the remaining trees.

I have seen the felling license route work for large estates with large gardens (woodlands?) on several occasions.

On my phone it looks like the other tree was an ash with a sparse crown (ADB?). That might have been a factor in the sequence of events.

Why is it bad taste? You can join the army at 16, I tried but they wouldn't have me as I'm deaf in one ear. My very good mate signed up the day after my 16th birthday and ended up as a Warrant Officer 1st Class, he left after 25 odd years in there.

That bit I couldn't agree more with. But they won't, not while they work for those with real money.

I'm talking about taxing people with real money, not someone sitting on £10 million. That's the politics of reality, not envy. The non-rich kids who are likely to get the fun of joining the army are faced with the real possibility that when they come back with PTSD and missing limbs/friends there will be no welfare support. Labour ceased to be left-wing some time ago, if that has passed you by you might want to revisit things.
