  13. I'd say that wall with its footings and its root severance , played a major part in the failure of the above tree.. Sorry to bang on a subject thats very close to my heart, but I'm thinking compaction, plays a major part in the failure of old beech trees ..
  14. Who doesn't keep reciepts mores the point..
  15. haha now that made me laugh.............
  16. Great post!
  17. might just do that mate
  18. Masses of fungal fruit on MonkeyD's tree, very little in the way of Decay, I know where your coming from though Dave, might I suggest anyone with a Meripilus dilemma consider a root investigation, before opting for the chop...
  19. Yes they do but is it caused by Meripilus? in my experience, investigating roots, and grinding out stumps I think not......... Meripilus is a saprophyte, IE they live on decayed wood [roots] could we be imaginative enough to think some other factor might be the cause of root decay, followed naturally by the occurrence of Meripilus..
  20. Haha, mate you've got more chance seriously injuring yourself picking your nose than you have , by a beech with merrip...
  21. HAHAHA love it..............
  22. I'll say this chaps that beech isn't going to fall over in the near future from root failure, the roots on that tree are as healthy and vigorous as they get. The only root decay we found, was on a very few roots that were under main structural roots near the truck, this decay is to be expected , its no different to a little dead wood in the crown.. I'll put my neck on the line here, we fell far too many trees, because we see merrip fruit on the buttress! yep and I'm as guilty as the next tree surgery contractor! having excavated and carried out an extensive root investigation, there IMO is no argument for its keeping.. You know lads, when I contracted we felled hundreds of beech, with merrip, and ground out hundreds of beech stumps, I can't recall whilst grinding out all those stumps, ANY trees huge amounts of scary rotten roots EVER!
  23. We certainly learned a thing or two investigating the roots on the above tree! a more in depth post will follow..
  24. Anymore names for the list? I'd like to give kew some notice if it looks like we will be visiting in numbers, plus you never know with a decent size group of us they '''might''' put on a tour or something else of interest... Thanks Lee
