  1. nope. It has to have been registered as such from the word go. You cannot change the discription once it has been sold - thats why a unimog registered as a HGV is a waste of time...
  2. Closer you set your anvils the better. Less strain on the driveline, better quality chip. As steve says, increase the speed of the rollers for bigger chip.
  3. I like the idea, and have tried it a few times.... But... I always revert to using the other end of my line with second friction hitch. I'm one of those people who hate carrying to much gear round the tree though.
  4. ANY chipper is better than none
  5. does the small infeed dimensions of the TW not irritate you? That was my own complaint with the TW. I also found the older Entec badged machines were better quality... No complaint on Kubota engines!

    The Talk....

Any of you ever get THE TALK from your partners about reading tree sites?
  7. where's mike when we need him? as its a Shliesing, about 50p should do it...
  8. Impact driver is the only way, short of drilliing the head off the bolt. Edit- Not sure what people do with their TW's, but on my Farmi's I used to run, I used to replace the bolts every time the knives came out, as they were silly little bolts.
  9. I'll put top or bottom bar depending on your preference. Even Buttons on a cetop valve, but I dont recomend them. The flywheel on a Jensen is massive. I like the way they use 1" steel plate for the fans - Talk about a lot of rotational mass...
  10. That looks like Dennis 'fetch me a stool' Cahoon's 500cc honda. Al would know.
  11. Thats funny you should say that about the Bar JP. most people prefer the bar over buttons. I reckon the Jensen has the best build and finish of all the chippers, But I hate the poxy meshing cast rollers, and the silly gearbox with 1 drive motor.
  12. Where's my RAOTFLMAO icon? WHo cares if its legal? it looks fun..
  13. Cmmon guys, tell me why you like these machines... Personally, I always liked Bandits for the massive powerful infeeds, and farmi for the price - got a lot of chipper for your money.
  14. There are soma awsome 2 stroke tuners in the UK, I guess noone has given them a chainsaw - YET! I have plans for some of the shows next year...
  15. Do you suffer from a lack of staff or a lack of work? Always seemed to be on or t'other for me:(
  16. This is always a sensitive subject - What do you think is the best chipper on the market today? and Give GOOD reason - no point in saying 'brand X is best cause I like it' Why do you think a given model is the best? I'm mostly talking about hand fed Arb chippers, not Biomass chipping behemoths.
  17. I'm a Husky man myself. Not that I dont like Stihls, but 20 years using the orange king sticks:D Although having used the Makita / Dolmar saws, I reckon both Stihl and Husky should watch out - cracking saws
  18. Which do you use? Myself I have mostly settled on the blakes, as an update on the old 4 wrap prussick. I have used a VT, but I find its does'nt suit my style on big takedowns. Do different hitches suit different jobs or climbing styles?
  19. I'm putting up this thread because I'm surprised at the lack of posting on this site. Despite over a 100 new member's, posting is woefull. I know that many of you come here just to read - but it helps if you put something in. This site will be a real benifit to the UK Arb scene - but it needs you guys and your opinions to make it work. To help things out, I'm going to start a few threads asking your opinions on various subjects. I look forward to reading you!
  20. IW still use all Knott components in their trailers. We are just up the road from Knott UK, and use their equipment on our chippers. IW take an artic load of components a week for building trailers
  21. Assuming your climbing and saw skills are up to scratch, AA tech cert or RFS Diploma would be a better (Harder!) qualification to acheive. A lot of the RFS is very 'hands on' based, whereas the tech cert or dip is a more cerebral type of course. Its all down to recognition. A degree in forestry will sound much better to a potential employer, despite the RFS being a better course.
  22. Ditto. Get your kit out of there ASAP! I lost about £200k in contracts last time round - I hope the same fools arent in charge this time.
  23. I used to do a lot, mainly threaded stainless rod and 11mm steel cable. Most of mine were in tight forked Black pine and Macrocarpa. I installed about 200 of those stupid padded braces when I worked in sweden, they were a real money spinner for the company.
  24. Really? I wonder what goes into manufacturing a god?
  25. Ifor williams are not as strong as they used to be. And provided you use enough steel, and Knott-Avonride components, its easy to build a better trailer than IW.
