  1. Which do you use? Myself I have mostly settled on the blakes, as an update on the old 4 wrap prussick. I have used a VT, but I find its does'nt suit my style on big takedowns. Do different hitches suit different jobs or climbing styles?
  2. I'm putting up this thread because I'm surprised at the lack of posting on this site. Despite over a 100 new member's, posting is woefull. I know that many of you come here just to read - but it helps if you put something in. This site will be a real benifit to the UK Arb scene - but it needs you guys and your opinions to make it work. To help things out, I'm going to start a few threads asking your opinions on various subjects. I look forward to reading you!
  3. IW still use all Knott components in their trailers. We are just up the road from Knott UK, and use their equipment on our chippers. IW take an artic load of components a week for building trailers
  4. Assuming your climbing and saw skills are up to scratch, AA tech cert or RFS Diploma would be a better (Harder!) qualification to acheive. A lot of the RFS is very 'hands on' based, whereas the tech cert or dip is a more cerebral type of course. Its all down to recognition. A degree in forestry will sound much better to a potential employer, despite the RFS being a better course.
  5. Ditto. Get your kit out of there ASAP! I lost about £200k in contracts last time round - I hope the same fools arent in charge this time.
  6. I used to do a lot, mainly threaded stainless rod and 11mm steel cable. Most of mine were in tight forked Black pine and Macrocarpa. I installed about 200 of those stupid padded braces when I worked in sweden, they were a real money spinner for the company.
  7. Really? I wonder what goes into manufacturing a god?
  8. Ifor williams are not as strong as they used to be. And provided you use enough steel, and Knott-Avonride components, its easy to build a better trailer than IW.
  9. looks good. building a good trailer is not rocket science, so I would say its a good buy.
  10. Is Meeka here?
  11. Nice work Tim - especially for having only recently passed your NPTC... I wont slag you off for posting pics of one handed cutting with no secondary anchor dont post them at proclimber though
  12. Your right. Its definately the harness...

    Morals.

Immoral would mean that it is wrong, whereas Amoral would indicate that there is no right or wrong. Personally, I believe that all treework is unnecesary to trees, and that its just a way of making trees fit our urban space, and career's for arbo's. A good businessman would be Amoral in this instance, as its making money that counts, not arguments of tree health. On the subject of Matt's beech trees, I think the decision was a business one, not a Moral decision. He feels that undertaking the work is a bad decision because of the future damage it may do to the reputation of his business, and the possibility of not getting paid. Who are we to tell people what to do with their trees? We can advise them, but if there are no legal (tpo) restrictions, they have the right to do what they like. Remember BS3998 is a guideline, not a rulebook. What always surprises me is our willingness to fell trees left right and centre, but we baulk at cutting them in half...

    Hello Brits!

Funny you should say that. I have a shiney new 55hp turbo yanmar here... The torque curve on the turbo version is significantly better than the old 49hp engine.

    Hello Brits!

Hey Mr Grumpy, good to see you. You want to replace that Gravley yet?
  21. Weeks wage? Damn your underpaid... I have the Klima airs, they are a superb boot, but a little heavy for summer use.
  22. Hehe... Theis is the one Caroline banned me for posting at proclimber...
  23. Thanks Mike, Good Advice.
  24. Predator 50 vs 7515trx = no comparison. This machine will not be a competitor to the carlton. Its a high powered back garden grinder, not a site clearance machine.
