  1. Are you on Apple or Android? Did you update at home via wifi or on site? I update daily and have had no issues that you speak of.
  2. Oh do tell? Anything that's "very easy" is always favourable to me:thumbup:

  4. The two times I've managed to bust out a cutter, they have been near the far end, so I've cut off that end and made do with a slightly shorter cutter, or it gets used to rougher work and I keep my best trimmers for best work. Luckily after doing client for a while you get to know where any hidden obstacles are along a hedgerow, either removing or moving them out of the trim line.

  6. I'm guessing that if the steel is too tough, the cutters will break off easier, at least if they are soft they will flex a little more, be more forgiving? The best "older" machine I have is the Tanaka single sider, the cutters on at are as tough as old boots, but I could never get it just right. I've re-done it yesterday and it's now superb, which has pleased me as it's a great machine for those perfectly straight formal hedges. Of course when a machine cuts well it will be more economical on fuel too.

  8. A local guy uses a grinder and tbh the results are deplorable, I could probably chew the hedge neater. Of course, it's all in the technique, a knack, some have it others don't.

  10. The "stones" are diamond type, for sharpening chainsaws, so you get a pack of all sizes and a handle for IIRC around £13. They fit in the Dremmel type tools, so are a powered sharpener. I used the largest sized stone for the trimmers. Gives a nice smooth sharpen, easy to guide and get right. Found them on the Bay a couple of months back.

  14. Fair enough, maybe they were pattern parts? I know I nearly passed out at the price of the last set I replaced, due to broken teeth on a bleedin pig iron tucked in a hedge

  18. Im actually thinking this may not be a bad thing. From a completely different perspective. We all moan when saws get stolen, usually to be sold on down the pub at a fraction of the price of it's value. Now if Joe Public can walk into Aldi/Lidl/Argos and pick up a saw with warranty for around £100, surely that removes the market for stolen saws? this has been proven with household goods such as tvs and other leccy kit, so just maybe it'll work out for our saws too. Just another angle to look at things?

  20. After all these years of struggling to find someone who can actually do this properly, I have made do with files to keep the edge. But this is time consuming, laborious, tedious, boring, and I'm never altogether satisfied with the overall result. So, I bought some diamond sharpening filing stones for my Not-A-Dremel, and I am chuffed with the results. Every trimmer is now cutting beautifully, I am well impressed with myself for my ingenuity. An hour well spent getting all trimmers back to perfection, happy days:thumbup:

  22. As some you're pricing against have little experience. Calculating an approx volume of chip from some of these leviathans can be very difficult. Ive just this minute submitted a quote for a monster in a tight spot, entwined with Rose, amongst domestic power and phone lines, and betwixt a nice tiled outbuilding and a house. The price is high, tbh I don't care if I don't get it this year. I priced it four years ago and the client was not in a position to be able to afford the job to be done, and I'm cynical as to whether he can afford it now. Trouble is, the longer he leaves it the dearer it gets.
