  1. This has been requested several times in the past, apologies for being a little tardy opening it up:icon14:
  2. obviously plenty people disagree with you there!
  3. there are a couple of americans i know who have them and swear by them....never used one personally, but if you're comparing to one of the smaller grinders they seem to generally get the thumbs up....then of course theres the fact that you can take them literally anywhere!
  4. any saw that cuts out that much is simply set wrong. both husky and stihl make great saws...i have different favorites within each power range.
  5. hmmm and where might i get one of them?
  6. I've had my eye on these units for the past few years, havent really heard from anyone if they are actually any good or not....has anyone got anything like this? http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav/nav.jsp?action=detail&fh_secondid=9284750&fh_view_size=6&fh_start_index=12&fh_location=%2f%2fcatalog01%2fen_GB&fh_search=alarm&fh_eds=%c3%9f&fh_refview=search&ts=1211999390776&isSearch=true Andy's incident has made me focus my attention more towards my security.
  7. sorry mate...where was it stolen from?
  8. patchwork, it matters mate:icon14:
  9. its not the issue of it making the wood weaker that concerns me with chestnut, its more wether the wood is strong enough to hold it in the first place.
  10. well considering i get about 50% of my work from this client thats not an option......i dont think it does any damage to the tree, just not an ideal choice for the wood thats all.
  11. chestnut is one tree i dont like to use invasive bracing on.......did some just the other week, couldnt talk the customer into gefa bracing.
  12. it always matters where they drop
  13. well dont be surprised if they say no! no one likes splicing old ropes as far as i can tell. and from an outsiders viewpoint, i think they like to get through as many splices as possible at these events....i guess old splices would slow their progress.
  14. havent tried, but its a nice light saw, so providing your positioning is ok and you're always using 2 hands i dont see a problem.
  15. i have a firewood processor, 50% of my stock is surgery waste and it manages it ok.
  16. ok i should add......im not saying it couldnt do serious work.....just would use something with more power if the choice was there.
  17. be ok for a little snedding saw to leave by the chipper, wouldnt consider it for any serious work. i have one with a 12" carving bar, gets used for fine detail work, nothing more.
  18. colours important, some ropes can be very hard to see.........i tend to just go by what feels good to the touch, although i tend to try any rope going.
  19. what do the lectures cost abby?
  20. i think you are quite possibly right, the guy obviously wants companies to struggle more if it means he profits from it, in the same way that estate agents and mortgage lenders have been scare mongering people into buying homes to beat the price rise.....all its done is forced the prices up further. but even so, i think hes right from all the signs i see we are in a recession, which just hasnt been officially announced yet
