  4. IMO it will stand up for a few good years as yet, but a light crown thin to reduce some of the weight wouldnt hurt.....of course thats just an assessment from the picture so dont hold me to that. you could have the decay measured but thats not cheap.
  5. its not a sharp edge and the knot is static, no problem there IMO
  6. http://www.enspec.com/articles/ENSPEC%20Research%20Paper%20-%20Ganoderma%20on%20Trees.pdf a little in depth that is, but basically its a fungus that will cause butt rot. how big is the tree and how large is the canopy?
  7. bump......how are you expected to clip yourself to the victim these days in an assessment?
  8. definetly adrenalin jamie:wave:
  9. fancy making me go out to the workshop on a sunday morning!!!
  10. not sure exactly whats going on in that particulary picture to be honest, but how it would normally be configured for a v.t is one leg tied to the krab and the other let tied around the becket........making it neater on the krab.
  11. Wether or not it is safe to tie into the becket on a micro pulley has been discussed many times in the past, and I know a lot of people who do use this configuration. Theres now a pulley that is definetly rated for this purpose http://www.iscwales.com/whatshot/2008/may/index.htm
  12. wonder how far this thread goes before it has to be closed!
  13. or i could turn the lump of wood i used for the bench into 50 walking sticks
  14. yeah, an hour with an angle grinder sorted that out, followed by a few coats of boiled linseed oil.
  15. by the way before anyone takes me seriously....i was joking:wave:
  16. hmmm i was wondering what i would charge it out for....i dont think i could get enough for it to be worth while....it would need to be at least £160, personally i reckon its worth more like £60-£70
  17. after seeing MattyF's bench carvings of thuja it inspired me to go and have a little play with some thuja lumps ive had sitting up my yard for the past few months......a little present for the mothers new patio. with a very steady hand and by using boiled linseed oil instead of chain oil the carving came out finely finished and ready treated!
  18. how much is it out of interest?
  19. ive been speaking to the charity today, the amount donated so far is actually up to £200, so not bad at all.......1 more day to go to get your donations in guys!! its all for a good cause.
