1. Good luck Tommy. Have to say, its very rare that I have felled a macrocarpa of any size where the trunk has been solid and good for anything. Is it nice for carving?
2. I use pfanners, and for the long quick descents that burn the gloves quickest I tend to use the heel of my palm on the zigzag rather than my fingers
3. Bar will fit straight on. It only gets complicated if you are changing chain pitch size and even then its just a case of buying the right sprocket for your saw.
4. In answer to your question about method of removal, it is not too big for a tree team to climb and dismantle without a crane, although it not necessarily always more expensive to employ a crane for large removals, and the length of time to remove the tree would be halved meaning less inconvenience for you
5. There's no fibre glass part on the carbons, still not 100% sure which spikes you own
6. oh right, well its all one moulded piece, no spare part for that unless you are able to buy a shank alone, which i doubt. We are talking about the carbon geckos and not the aluminium ones i assume?
7. What are the targets? If its roadside i'd be concerned, if its in the middle of a lawn or somewhere else less frequented then less so.
8. Lets face it, the right thing for the tree is to leave it well alone!
9. This Even with the most 'arboriculturally focussed' company you will occasionally have to do things you dont necessarily agree with, but there are big differences between companies. Build up a network of customers then weed out the ones you dont want to work for over time.
10. This gets right on my wick. If its hot and im doing something on the ground with zero risk of anything hitting me from above I will often take my helmet off, but still wears safety glasses and ear plugs. I won't put up with a groundsman with no helmet on. My no.1 pet peave though is when a groundy walks under the tree without looking up first, helmet or no helmet. Seems to be the obvious thing to do for anyone valueing their own life would be to look up before walking under a tree they know full well someones dropping lumps out of
11. The list is too long. Unfortunately i'm not a patient man and if I dropped a lot of them my work rate along with fluidity would be seriously impaired, not a compromise i'm prepared to make really.
12. By the book you should have a secondary tie in point at all times when cutting
13. Absolutely, i meant as far as them being reported, they seem to come in waves. I remember a couple years ago there was a 2 week period where there were 2-3 reported a day, some big hits too. That was the same time I decided to go ahead with Arbsafe
14. All going good so far with no major cravings either. It really is in the mind mostly form my experience. Sometimes it seems impossible to go without, other times when you're in the right frame of mind its just easy. Staying off long term is the hard part. pathetic weak humans...I have no excuse
15. These things do seem to come in fits and starts
16. Yep I did that a few times till I clocked it
17. damm it, i'll have to go back now!!
18. thats after, about 1.5m to 2m off all round.
19. Tip reduction on an oak tree..wasn't much fun at my age!
