90 year old walnut. the tree officer said we could only give it a small reduction and deadwood.

feel free to slate me, although if no one does i'll be happy :001_smile:

first 3 pics close up are before, during and after (although we didn't get a pic of the final stage as the light was going so had to take a pic whilst i still had a bit to do)

last 2 pics are slightly further, before and (almost) after

There seems to be a lot of ladders lying about the place in the piccies, were they for the lower down smaller bits? I'd be well happy with that if that was my first one. Just out of interest what was the reason for the reduction? Looking at the tree a crown thin may have been a good alternative - not slating you at all just wondering what I'd have suggested doing to it. How did you find getting the stuff on the ground without getting it all hung up?

ukminch - not 100% on the details - i'm just the stupid climber :D but as far as i know, the landlord wanted it maintained in some way and the reduction/deadwood was all we got. and some of it was over hanging the garden at the back.

it was getting tangled but nothing too frustrating.

and we only used the ladder once even though it was up all day....

john - yes sorry, worded badly. the percentage was stated. i'll let you guess though. see how accurate i was :D

and thank you for replies.
