  • Electric Performance in a Top Handle Chainsaw

Feast your eyes on the new DCS-2500T the first battery-powered top handle chainsaw from ECHO. Here is an electric saw to meet the needs of the arborist and tree care professionals who use top handle chainsaws daily for pruning and arboriculture. Don’t let the light weight (dry weight 1.6kg) deceive you, this machine packs professional power with exceptional acceleration. In fact, the 50V Lithium-ion battery generates power and cutting performance equivalent to ECHO’s best-selling CS-2511TES petrol chainsaw; and it does it with low vibration and without the noise and emissions, making it perfect for use in noise-sensitive areas. Well balanced and ergonomically designed for manoeuvrability and precision, the DCS-2500T is the latest addition to ECHO’s 50V battery series and is part of their X Series of ‘best in class’ products. The superior, dependable tools are specifically designed for professionals who rely on their tools day in and day out. Often leading in terms of power and performance, X Series products are tested in the most extreme conditions, says the manufacturer, to ensure flawless operation.

The DCS-2500T is certainly packed full of beneficial user-friendly features to complement its power and near noiseless operation. Users will find the patented Quick Draw harness ring a real boon for hooking and unhooking the chainsaw in one movement. There’s a drop prevention lanyard hook for off ground safety and this is a truly easy to operate machine with an anti-slip handle grip and patented thumb rest adding to operator comfort. There’s a side-access chain tensioner to allow quick chain adjustments. The driving force, the brushless motor, will ensure long-lasting maintenance-free operation, while the casing has an IPX4 rating for water resistance so the chainsaw is showerproof for protection against the elements. The all-important oil adjustment is situated on the top of the saw so it’s easily adjusted, while filling is equally simple with the flip lever cap opening. Last but not least is the internal air filter which prevents dust from entering the main board and motor.

Qualified top handle arborists and tree surgeons looking for ultimate power with quiet, low vibration and emissions-free professional-grade performance will find ECHO’s DCS-2500T just the ticket for everyday use. Available from about mid-2020.  You can find out more from your local authorised ECHO dealer. You can also visit www.echo-tools.co.uk or call 01844 278800 for more information.

50V...hrrm w/ Echo still not releasing a lith climb-saw I'd been hoping they'd come in w/ a lith replacement for a 16" climb saw (something akin to the 355, not the 2511)
Am betting they(all companies) will end up using a 70 or 80V platform for their heavy-duty top handles (ie 16" setups), can't wait to see the 1st company release one I mean it's awesome seeing lith beat 25cc's but it's been doing that for over a year now, so surprising someone hasn't made a 16" I mean lith cells would make it so damn easy to power an 18" (have heard 50V, max, needed to beat a 50cc) so it's just a q of who makes the damn thing first, hell this new awesome-looking Lith-Echo unit is 3lbs?!  I mean, I'm a small guy and hate when I gotta use my 32cc because my 12"/25cc wasn't long-enough for something and even I'm looking at this ^ new offering thinking "Instead of a 3lbs, 50V unit to replace the 2511, gimme a 5lbs, 70V unit to replace a 355T!"

People still argue-about/seek power in top-handles, lithium will make that obsolete / allow manufacturers to create uncomfortably-overpowered saws very soon/now, was reallllly hoping echo's late entrance was to be for a something bigger than a 25cc-replacement (like stihl&husq have already released, hell I prefer echo but would still prefer a year-old design from stihl/husq over a just-released design from echo..)

Been reading up on the new echo battery top handle and looks good and better then the stihl but reading the technical stuff it says only last 18/20mins on full battery charge which to me isn’t that great.so obviously need extra battery to make it worth while using, take 45mins to fully charge and cost is significant at £886 for saw,1 battery & charger so another battery will take cost up to close £1’000.

obviously if you have other Echo battery stuff this will help as I think same battery system used in all there cordless range.

18min runtime is with throttle unreleased entire time. Climbers use it 45-150 minutes of actual time which also involves changing positions in the tree. 2 or 3 batteries are more than enough for working non-stop without overloading anything.

P.S. petrol top handle has a runtime of 20-30 minutes WOT as well, if engine doesn't seize :D

Pellenc do a lot of vineyard stuff, you can imagine thousands of sécateur cuts by hand being torment, walking between the rows pressing a button is much better. There I imagine a backpack like that wouldn’t be an issue.

i love the petrol version (though i cant for the love of it get it to idle! its nearly new still and it either runs to fast of cuts out. cant win).

But at £800+ i think they are asking too much for a small saw!

There is a price correction on the Echo DCS-2500, the correct price for the saw with 2Ah battery and charger is £735.00 Inc VAT (£612.50 Ex. VAT). Echo always quote trigger time for their battery product unlike estimated or up to time quoted by some other brands. While this might not look as good on paper it is more reflective of the actual performance of the battery in day to day use. The run times vary dependant on the bar and chain combination, on a full charge with the 3/8 option expect 18 mins and with the 1/4 pitch option 20 mins. Good maintenance especially to the bar and chain are essential.
